Valentine's Day tomorrow - any plans???

Recommended Posts

Load of old horseshit.

BUT it's a great time to spot miserable couples in restaurants.. straining for conversation as they realise this is the first proper meal out they've had together since the previous Valentine's day.. and discovering how little they actually have in common when they don't have their big group of friends to paper over the cracks.

God, that's not mine. Mine will be sitting embittered on the sofa with my brother who won't move out of my very small flat 5 months after coming to stay for a couple of weeks (the bitterness is directed at him, not my single status, I won't be weeping into an australian chardonnay and singing All By Myself, well not unless there's really nothing on telly)

but I do think this whole "oh I don't do Valentine's Day" thing is a cop out. you don't have to go out for an expensive meal and buy shit chocolates from thorntons - an extra reason to show someone you love / fancy / lust after them is always quite nice really. of course you should do it each and every day, but new nipple tassles every day would get prohibitively expensive

Kinda agree with the sentiment on most of the posts. I really don't like being told to do something at the best of times let alone sit in a restaurant and force the conversation if you really don't feel like it.... and I WON'T feel like it tomorrow!

As Rosie says you should always make the effort not just because Hallmark have said so.

Flowers are no big deal are they? A small price to pay me thinks .. especially with the fantastic Alan Day down the road - they really are fantastic value there.

BTW - nipple tasssles are usually a xmas thing in our household! Look good with tinsel ::o

Sorry - I don't want to be told WHEN to make a fuss of my partner. Valentine's day used to low key and fun - about getting a card from an admiring stranger - now its about materialism, consumerism and, from some newspaper articles, competition between women about who has the most money spent on them. Personally I think it stinks.

    • Saw this today about Southwark voting in support of a tourist tax in the borough  BBC News - Tourist tax visitor levy comes closer in Southwark https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c5ypvw0qln7o Makes me wonder what else they can find to tax, maybe a fine for breaking wind, or breathing or even a tax on windows. Of course I am being facetious but it does feel like if it moves, they will tax it.
    • Politicians particularly so....remember it's always party before people! I doubt McAsh will be in cabinet much longer...he might find even more attempts to kneecap his political career. I wonder if he might have to move to another area and restart - he obviously has political ambition but it seems Southwark is not going to be where it blossoms anymore - unless he can manage some sort of coup.

    • Hi Sue, they were not local solicitors. Andrea’s was based in Wales and the other firms involved were large nationwide conveyancing companies (rather than conventional high street solicitors). I’m happy to advise clients and buyers privately on what I believe to be their shortcomings but I don’t think doing so in public on the forum would be appropriate, particularly as they are not locally based. My general advice would always be to steer clear of the big conveyancing companies as they are, in my experience, notoriously difficult to contact when the need arises and the case handler is often not a fully qualified solicitor and so issues have to be referred upwards to “technical teams” internally, which was part of the problem in Andrea’s chain.
