Thankfully that bloke was not a regular.

I thought the whole point was that each person played seven? Hence the name? It was seven when I did it but that was a while ago.....

No, it's not seven. It's Lucky Sevens because you play seven inch records.

Sue, if you got seven then you must have been there on quite a quiet night. It's all down to how many people put their names down to play. Typically you get 15 mins, so about four songs, unless they're perfect slices of 3 minute pop. On a quiet night, you might get longer, on a really busy night, maybe only three..

Once a friend and I got about an hour at the end of the night, and were let loose on Mr Gowlett's record collection, but it's never happened again since.

Then I suggest you hop to it! I intend to unleash my first Christmas seven inch of the season on Thursday - it's gonna be awesome.

I could never decide if I loved or hated the Gowlett - had some of my best and some of my worst experiences there in the area. Once saw the then publican head-butt an errant punter outside the main doors, yet other times enjoyed great pizza and organic Austrian wine - hey ho..............

Gowlett pizzas are better than the Actress by some way.

Had many a great night there and it's my local to boot. Only once had an unpleasant experience it was as much my fault as the other fella's. Don't think it suffers any worse than any other busy pub on a weekend in London.

I even like it during the week when it's quiet. ?2 a slice pizza then too - best kept lunch secret until now.

Funnily enough, the couple of times where I've not felt entirely comfortable in there were during the day. I am going back maybe 4 or 5 years mind. I basically like the place, and have certainly never felt inclined to leave for fear of getting beaten up or anything.

Went back to the Gowlett for first time in a while last week and found that.....it's still very good. I've had moments in there where it's felt like the greatest pub on earth. It holds one of the most mixed clientele, has some seriously decent music on Lucky 7's night, good ales and always the backstop of some of the best stone fired pizzas for miles. The atmosphere on Thursday night was lovely. All types having a good time. How pubs should be.

You want coked up gurning polotroons with a sprinkling of menace, then you have a choice of LL shitholes to choose from- try going downstairs at Boho on a weekend.Fucking hell. The Gowlett is a rarity these days- its a local pub that survives-with its mixture of rough and tumble Olly reid lookalike geezers, mixed with people who work in "the arts". the telling thing about the Gowlett is people standing at the bar drinking - this isnt soemthing you see too much nowadays in the 'hood - people comfortable with their bar. If you are a habitual user of match dot com, then maybe its not for you- I wouodnt suggest it is a pulling zone. Johnny runs the place as an ole skool pub - its not a corporate offering by any means- and thats not a bad thing.Where else can you see your postman, ripped to gills and grooving away by himself to obscure '70s dub reggae ? not the fucking Bishop. I would suggest that if you are trying to avoid getting your head kicked in for looking at someones pint, then you are more at risk of a serial mauling from designer shirt Penge masses on the vibrant and up n coming LL ( GCH Not tested, leashold, your investment may be at risk if you do not keep up repayments.)

In fact, I may pop along this weekend to show solidarity. The lucky sevens can be shite tho'- I tried to put on disc 1 of the Space Ritual once and was bundled onto the street. The cunts.
