Went on a rate-cut celebration spending spree down fopp.

Ted Barnes - portal Nou.

Wow frankly, shiveringly dark, occasionally intimate countryesque, folk inspired tunes, with accordian, strings, guitar, harmonicas, and glockenspiels, accompanied by his own gruff vocals (think Robert Fischer from the Willard Grant Conspiracy) and collaborations with other quality vocalists such as Froncoiz Breut and Beth Orton.

Frankly breath taking. Go...go now...buy!

Also worth a mention, the latest Wolf Parade CD, lovely, and Yeasayer's debut 'All Hour Cymbals', which is treading ground forged by Panda Bear/Animal Collective, but really good stuff.

I recorded a few Clash programmes last week. Revolution Rock, a bit of a light-weight Clash documentary, but with loads of concert footage. Westway to the World, haven't watched that yet. Also Joe Strummer, The Future is unwritten, a really well made biopic of the man. Sounds like he was a bit of an arse in his Clash heyday, but in his latter years came across as a really down to earth decent guy, very humble and clearly widely loved by all those who met him.

It's got me listening to lots of Clash again, really reminds me of what a top-draw band they were, some really fantastic tunes.

Highly recommend the Fopp sale at the moment.

Large selection of albums for sale at ?2-5, most in the ?2-3 and good ones to, especially if you're looking to beef p your back catalogue.

I just got:

Buck 65 - Situation

Go Team! - Proof of Youth

The Lilac Time - Astronaut

Fleet Foxes - Eponymous

Wedding Present - RCA Years

Tom Verlaine - Warm & Cool

for ?18. Lunch hour well spent.

Despite Beef's .. err...beef with Bon Iver, I think t'is a fine album indeed.

just listening to another of his pet hates, Fleet Foxes. I have to say, can't put my finger on who, but I basically already own this album as done by someone else, will update when tip of tongue manifests to a name.

Not Mercury Rev, but getting closer.

As of this morning I'm listening to Fight Like Apes and The Mystery of the Golden Medallion by Fight Like Apes

These guys are friends of a good pal of mine who knows them when they were both struggling bands in Dublin.

Now my mate is a struggling band in London and these guys have a proper album out, in the shops and everything.

If you like quirky, energetic power pop then it'll be right up your street.

One to check out, Lend Me Your Face, probably on youtube, myspace etc.

    • I'd like to post a recommendation for Jerry Oscar of H.F.U. Ltd.   Jerry has just completed the renovation of my bathroom and I’m so happy with how it turned out.  My bathroom has a strange layout (with about a quarter of the room/floor space un-useable due to the stairs underneath), but he came up with some great ideas that have really made the most of the space - somehow he turned the room into a tardis and made room for a bath (previously only had a shower) AND even given me extra storage. He's a magician!  I felt he really cares about what he does and treated the project like it was his own home. He was also great to have around – super friendly, easy to talk to and raise any queries or concerns with the project, and he was very respectful of the space. He kept his tools tidy and made sure the bathroom was still usable while he worked, which made a big difference day to day. He doesn’t cut corners and clearly has high standards.  I’m honestly so pleased with how everything turned out. If you’re looking for someone reliable and skilled, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Jerry. He does kitchens too, and if I ever redo mine, I’ll be giving him a call. • These Gents are amazing, we asked them to come and paint our whole house interior and fix a number of issues from previous paint jobs. They are professional, clean up after themselves and pay attention to every detail. Their work is outstanding and I can't recommend them enough, Brian and Malachi are incredible.
    • Fabion is an experienced plumber. I was connected with Fabion through an App when I had an emergency issue with my water tank in the loft. He fixed it.  He also came back to replace my taps in the kitchen. Since then Fabion has been able to help me with the following:  1. Putting up blinds - immaculate 2. Dismantling and reassembling beds x2 (30 mins flat)  3. Taking down big old doors Extremely professional. Clean - never leaves a mess. SO fast. Attends when he say he's going to attend. Friendly and kind.  I cannot recommend him more highly.
    • Hi would be grateful for any recommendations. It is for a special birthday. One of the party is vegetarian. Thanks
