I'm obviously having a mid life crisis and listening to pop drenched lo-Fi garage rocksters Japandriods and Waaves.

The former is particularly good and gets a big thumbs up from me though sometimes I feel like I really should have a skateboard to hand, so Brendan, right up your street ( I'll put it on that key I promises you).


As antidote to that i'm also dosing myself up with the amazing, and probably incomparable Wildbirds & Peacedrums new album The Snake. Proper beautiful, complex, pounding and ethereal. Marvellous.

Picked up the new Richard Hawley (fewer old-school strings, still fab) and the latest David Sylvian


If anyone thought his Blemish album a tad "out there" then wait until you hear this. I can't decide if it's wildly self-indulgent and rubbish, or wildly-self-indulgent and lovely

I felt the same way when I first heard The Drift by Scott Walker ... I later decided that it was very very good indeed ... not something you can listen to casually though ... you have to set time aside and listen to the entire album from start to finish ... s friend of mine used to joke that he would play it in the car at full blast whilst driving his kids back from school ... and they would be screaming " dad dad this old man is scaring us ... we want spongebob ! " etc .

That sounds like great fun Mockney but at which point during the celebration will a pissed up best man or father in law stagger onto the dancefloor with blood streaming from his broken nose and throw the bridesmaid over his shoulder whilst everyone whispers "Gosh, Rab ca' be such a hanfool onesh he's got a wee maiden in his seets", take her out into the carpark, and monsterously 'pillage' her in true Pictish fashion.


Followed by an extensive Police investigation leading to a heavy custodial sentence. I don't mean to be provocative but I've heard that this sort of thing is expected at clan gatherings north of the border.


Also, beware of 20 foot wicker effigies.

Oh dear. Radiohead in topping list compiled by self obsessed 'left field' musos shocker.


I have to say pitchfork is a pretty good website and usually worth a read. I take any of their reviews with a veritable job lot of salt (see what I did there).

I've about 18 of the top 20 albums and some of them are much loved in the mockney household. Animal collective are superb but among best of all time?!? No way.


The only one I'd consider would be Modest Mouses's Moon & Antarctica.

I'm quite enjoying a slightly odd album by Euros Child called Son of Euro Child.

If you're looking to fill in an hour or two of the next fortnight you could do worsethan get hold of it.


They're giving it away free at their site which is nice.

Tis a breathtakingly good album- at the polar opposite end of the SW scale I've been listening to 'til the band comes in' today


Also bootleg from friday's pixies gig, new Stevenson ranch davidians album and grizzly bear's 'yellow house'

      Totally agree regarding not supporting chains. Gail’s was fine but last time I went in Feb this year, actually walked out Fayetteville looking at menu and waiting 15 minutes to even get glass of water and not busy at all. Staff gone down hill - sooner it goes the better… Always prefer to support non chains - so many lovely places with good food to choose from with pleasant staff who know about customer service and sadly, non English which says a lot for our culture, pubs are also becoming abit of a hit and miss affair but maybe just unlucky. At the end of the day all about the chef. Still abit unclear where new place is located - is it down the road from Goose Green where parade of shops are before Peckham Rye?

      Surely only where the local businesses offer clear advantages, otherwise you are rewarding what should be failure. I want to be served by a better bakery than Gail's, not a worse but local independent one. Certainly give a local independent some time to get the offer right, but don't buy goods which are worse and or more expensive just because the outlet isn't a chain.

      Let’s just boycott all chains in favour of local businesses.  Places like Gail’s popping up everywhere has a very damaging impact on small businesses. It’s just the same as the new empanadas place but on a bigger scale. I’ll say it a million times more, we hold the power with our choices. Let’s use our power to look after ourselves and our environment (which includes small local family businesses). And yes, I also love Chacarero.
