krigh
Personally I love checking out my neighbourhood from the air and so I thought I would share for those who like to do the same. Taken back in November 2012. Here is a link for anyone who wants to see the full-res version. http://dancelikenooneiswatching.com/photos/East-Dulwich-from-the-air.jpgEnjoy, Krigh Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28592-ed-from-the-air/ Share on other sites
Twirly
Fab picture - thank you. I always thought the area was very green, this proves it! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28592-ed-from-the-air/#findComment-612152 Share on other sites
DJKillaQueen
Fabulous photo but don't show it to James Barber. He'll be horrified to see that ED is not an Island ;) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28592-ed-from-the-air/#findComment-612162 Share on other sites
ratty
Got my bearings and can actually see my house in that pic! Brilliant! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28592-ed-from-the-air/#findComment-612172 Share on other sites
Townleygreen
took me a while to get orientated! the big green area on the left is Peckham Rye etc, the one on the right is Dulwich Park, so (roughly) north is at the bottom. edhistory
Excellent photo.Particularly as it is an oblique looking SW that covers the whole of East Dulwich. It's interesting to see how much of the historic landscape can be seen embedded in a 2012 photo.John K Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28592-ed-from-the-air/#findComment-612227 Share on other sites
PeckhamRose
How excellent. I took a similar photo when I was flying over but it was not nearly as clear so well done you! Love how green it looks and you can see the train line and either someone has a blue roof or a swimming pool can't work out which! Also the edge of Brenchley Gardens, and the Reservoir. Thanks so much for posting! ianr
> and you can see the train line and either someone has a blue roof or a swimming pool can't work out which! On the Google maps satellite photo there's a pair of games pitch areas together, grey and terra cotta coloured, just south of N Dulwich station, if that's what you're looking at. I'd guess that the grey one has been recoated in a trendy blue. ianr
Taking the title of the photograph literally I worked out, to the nearest pixel, where the virtual centre of East Dulwich is -- in East Dulwich Grove near the junction with Lordship Lane, probably in someone's back room. SteveUK1978
Good work, great pic, well done for sneaking the camera out on the plane. I flew into City the other day and couldn't pick out ED....think I was on the wrong side of the plane. See there is some benefit to being on the flight path to all those who moan on here about having knowingly bought property under a flight path. civilservant
Great pic, which is somehow more satisfying to look at than the Google maps views. ED itself looks densely built-up, a sort of human ant-heap, not very green at all. The green bits seem to belong to Peckham (the Rye) or to DV. edhistory
Don't forget that Peckham Rye Common is in Nunhead and East Dulwich. The aerial photo shows how much damage the speculators did when they built Crimea. Just look west to the equivalent part of Dulwich Manor.John K Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28592-ed-from-the-air/#findComment-613199 Share on other sites
krigh
Glad everyone enjoyed them. I've put up a few more that I took in the sequence. I spotted Peckham Rye station first and started clicking from there. It was just my iPhone and unfortunately it doesn't capture the same quality as my SLR. http://dancelikenooneiswatching.com/photos/East-Dulwich-from-the-air2.jpg http://dancelikenooneiswatching.com/photos/Peckham-from-the-air2.jpg http://dancelikenooneiswatching.com/photos/Peckham-from-the-air.jpgSteveUK - I actually usually pick my seat based on seeing London or ED if I can. I was flying in from Vegas and knew Heathrow lands from the east to west over ED and then Richmond Park. Was lucky to be spot on. Ianr - Yes, it is surprising how much more interesting it is than Google Maps/Earth. Something about seeing it in one shot for real is quite fun. Speaking of maps though for those who haven't seen BING (Microsoft) maps have been updated with Aerial Photography from 2012 that is brilliant. You can almost recognise people in the photos. Super close and you can see all the detail on the buildings: http://www.bing.com/maps/?v=2&cp=sk90pngztc6t&lvl=20.18&dir=98.58&sty=o&eo=0&where1=East%20Dulwich%2C%20London&form=LMLTCC Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28592-ed-from-the-air/#findComment-613220 Share on other sites
