I've found panther cars to be totally unreliable, nothing as bad as your experience though. I now use East Dulwich Cars exclusively, never had a problem with them.

Panther cars final straw for me was them failing to turn up for over 40 minutes on a trip that was booked a week in advance to take 10 people from a wedding ceremony to the reception. They were constantly "2 minutes away". Eventually called another firm (can't remember which) who turned up in 5 minutes.

Panther Cabs left me waiting at Heathrow for an hour this week! I had booked with them the day before to pick me up from a flight. When I picked up my baggage I recieved a call from the driver saying he was only 20 mins away, I then had to wait an hour before he turned up. He blamed it on his controller giving him the job late. To add insult to injury He tried to charge me ?7 more than the cab (from Panther) which dropped me off earlier in the week.

Really? I find the transport links excellent - 2 buses to central london (176, 12), 10mins to London Bridge (from East Dulwich train station), or 20mins to Victoria (from Demark Hill).

Also the P13 stops inside Sainsburys and services a good portion of Lordship Lane!

I usually take the bus everywhere but there are a few journies that I wouldn't even consider undertaking in anything other than a cab. Two examples: to the airport, and to the hospital on the way to the labour ward. And when friends are leaving our house late at night to go home, especially after a few drinks.

No offence Quaywe but it was your fault for not having your eyes on the road, and driving too close to a parked car.. these guys are working long hours driving their cars all over the place for long shifts, maybe a little more understanding from you rather than acting all righteous and demanding telephone and address details off the poor guy..
Are you serious?! Or just a Panther Cars infiltrator? As a motorist who does not ride a bike I still know I am 100% responsible for checking it is safe to open my car before doing so. If I hit a cyclist then the fault is entirely mine and he or she is equally entitled to know my details for any insurance claim.
I honestly believe Quaywe exaggerates a lot on this message board, and I would say that this cab driver probably opened his door and maybe just brushed EdKIWI and being the campaigning self righteous type that he portays himself to be on here, he probably considerably overreacted, and this poor guy whos been working long long hours was pushed over the edge by Edkiwi's lack of consideration for other people, thats what i believe anyway
I have to say, in all the times I have booked a taxi with Panther, I have never once had a problem. I was picked up from Heathrow twice, and both times the service was reliable and friendly. They also offer a much cheaper service than most of the firms I have been with before. I guess we all have different experiences, but I certainly wouldn't have anything other than praise for them.

    • Am I right in thinking, after a little checking, that 'sim free phone' is now just the equivalent of 'unlocked', ie not locked to a specific network? Sue, if you do find a network that will let you keep a connection with them for nowt, or without any risk (in some cases) of having the number and even account balance withdrawn, do let me know. :)  It's happened to me twice -- once with a really nice number too.  I need to find a better deal for myself too.
