slim picking to win, best each way bets are mckelvey, snowy morning, and butlers cabin...mccoy will do it one day.

?2.50 e.w. on 4 horses costs ?20 and as steve t points out its keeps the interest going and is a fair bit of craic ,and you never know you might just pick the winner.

The busiest days work I have ever done in my life was working in Coral Racing on Grand National day in Liverpool. Up there EVERONE has a flutter, it was manic. You'd get old fellas coming in and slipping you a torn out piece of paper with their bet on, as they adn't realised that it was actually legal now.

We used to generally bundle up money and put every few hundred in the safe. That day I ha a box under the counter by my feet with thousands and thousands of pounds in it!

I don't bet regularly, but I like the feeling of the National. Yesterday however I slept right through it!

    • I know people won’t have any sympathy but the SEND challenge was brought up when taxing parents who have opted for independent school to meet a child’s SEND needs. Funding crisis is getting worse and the VAT on Education pushed children out of independent schools, now their SEND needs are to be met by the state.
    • I completely agree with you - and last night was really terrible where I am. Between midnight and 1am was the worst, where it genuinely felt like a war zone. I had to run out of my house to try and stop a grown man setting them off in open space right by our front doors. In response he went to throw a half lit one at me and then seemed to think better of it. I am so sad at how bad the situation has got here and how selfish people are. Fireworks are bad for the environment and for pets and wildlife, as well as just being unnecessary noise for people too. I have sent an email today to Helen Hayes, which I have done previously on this issue. Would advise anyone to write to your MP to do the same, and to ask them to engage with the debates scheduled for 19 Jan.
    • And they started long before midnight!
    • First mate - I wondered if I was imagining things at 4.45 this morning . Apparently not .
