I am thinking of setting up a Baby/Toddler swim school in ED and wondered what peoples thoughts are on this. I understand Peckham Pulse offer a baby swimming session and I know there are classes in Lewisham and London Bridge, but not sure if there is anything in ED.

As parents do you think there would be a demand for this or is there enough close by?

Any opinions gratefully recieved!

Many Thanks

A good usp would be to do sibling groups together -it's such a logistical nightmare to get lessons at the same time for more than 1 kid. When 1 moves up you have to completely rearrange everything or spend ages hanging about. I for one would be more than happy to get in too, especially if it meant more actual swimming for the kids rather than waiting on the side for their turn. You could have 3 or 4 families at a time and if each family had at least 1 adult in the water the teacher could circulate while the parents help their children practise what the teacher instructed.

Just a thought!

I'm keen. Been trying to get my 8 month old son onto a Saturday one and have had three false starts - one cancelled, and two without spaces after they said their would be. Getting most annoyed. Don't like taking my boy to Dulwich or Forest Hill though as the pools are not warm enough, even the junior pools.
We also went to the privately owned pool near Dulwich college and it was brilliant. Unfortunately the neighbours complained about the cars coming and going and I think the owner had to apply for a different type of licence so the lessons stopped. They had baby swimming on a couple of days and aqua tots I think on the others.

I think definitely a demand. I've spent 18 months going to lessons in Balham with my now 2 year old. The lessons locally are badly promoted so quite hard to fid out about and some at funny times for little ones.

Also I've found limited options for toddlers who are at levels 4 and 5.

Definitely worth a go but promote it well so people know about it

    • Rather than zero tolerance, a term I should have not used, I should have referred to crime,  No crime (excluding some things which really should not be criminalised) should be tolerated (albeit the reaction to a naughty 13 year old will be different to a violent criminal, and similarly those with mental health issues there will be some flexibility), I' was talking zero crime, which is impossible. New York was vastly improved, what happened to that wonderful Giuliani chap? US is not a role model of course, homicides per head dwarf the UK; the damage that white flight and the desolation of inner cities that happened to  many places such as Baltimore, Washington DC and Detroit is difficult to turn round Much rather move this debate to the Lounge!

    • The quarterly SNT Police Meetings are advertised on EDF - the one Beansprout mentions, is  Dulwich Hill. The team have been short  staffed for a number of months as one officer was injured trying to arrest a shoplifter - unfortunately the shoplifter got away but the officer was left with fractures. We regularly see one or two of the police team around the Dulwich Hill area (they were recently in Landells Road)  Dulwich Hill SNT are hoping to resume their Cuppa with a Copper sessions but are frequently asked to support colleagues policing the various protest marches.  The next Dulwich Hill SNT meeting is scheduled for December (date to be confirmed) The attack on the young woman would come under the Goose Green SNT.
