Beginning at the National is worth seeing: funny in an excruciating kind of way and you could really hear individual lines resonating with people in the audience. Perfect for people in their 30s and early 40s particularly.
Really enjoyed Oslo at the Harold Pinter Theatre. It's the story of the unofficial talks organised by Norwegian diplomats between the Israelis and Palestinians in the early 1990s that led to the Oslo peace accords. Very witty script which I wasn't expecting given the subject matter, only slight downside is it's about 3 hours long.

Didn't see the Ferryman, but am going to see Brian Friel's Translations at the National in a couple of weeks. More Irish / English angst. I'm off to Donegal this weekend to get myself in character...

Consent at the Harold Pinter Theatre is worth checking out. The early scenes are about a rape case, but the bulk of the play is about the lawyers who worked on it and the knock-on effects on their partners and relationships. Despite the subject it's laugh out loud funny, but makes some good points as well.

Just saw Girl from the North Country, the Bob Dylan musical which is back in the West End and is as good as everybody says. I'm not a musicals person and only know Dylan's greatest hits but I loved it - story's not the most upbeat but the cast have fantastic voices and the music is stunning.
Just agreeing with the views on Consent, wondering why it was still on but then seeing the pist is two years old when I saw it. During the New Year's sale was surprised how little I want to see in the West End. The Comedy about the Bank Robbery is no doubt still excellent. I go less and less to the West End as prices generally silly or you are up in the Gods and do the Brockley Jack from time to time. Seetickets send me offers including some good stuff off the West End eg Park Theatre. Women in Black is excellent in the West End.

    • Lordship Lane has two dry cleaners, three pizza places and an Italian selling pizza, two burger places, three bakeries, two hardware (ish, I'm thinking AJ Farmer here), God knows how many coffee and charity shops, two Italians, three nail salons, five wine shops... Where was the abject outrage when Dynamic Vines opened up literally next door to Cave de Bruno? But I don't see his customers decamped next door - no, those stalwarts are still out in force every night.  In Roman times all businesses were clustered by product. It's what kept prices down. Same in any market you go to abroad, they're all selling the same things next to each other.  Why is everyone being so hard on this new place? It's called healthy competition - you can't curtail the expansion of your business on the basis you that might hurt someone else's.

    • In restaurant terms I would say a chain manifests when the motivation is no longer “we are a couple/small group who have an idea and love food” who open a restaurant, them another and then a few more BUT THEN PIVOT to “we need capital to rollout out new restaurants so we have leveraged the help of the following investors”  that is the moment it stops being about the chef/food on the plate and becomes about the spreadsheet  so it is POSSIBLE  for a restaurant to have 50 branches and not be a chain - but I can’t think of any  I don’t know chango - by based on the number of outlets they appear to have just crossed/or are about to cross that line
