JL - thanks so much for posting this clip. I watched it and I was really enjoying it and then, at the end, this clip popped up. I was watching that clip and I suddenly realised that I was at this gig.... so long ago... but I was there.

Early 80s, Albert Hall. Clapton, Beck, Jimmy Page, Andy Fairweather Low, Ray Cooper, Bill Wyman. Even Charles and Diana were there that night and it was in the days they were still speaking to each other (yes, that long ago).

Jah - nothing changes - this clip is from the B52s last Thursday night at the Roundhouse.

My best boys came up from Brighton for the gig and we spent the night at the hotel in Camden Market (just as well, way to pissed to make it back to ED). I wore my brand new Manolo killer heels, sang along to everything (even the ones I didn't know the words to) and I haven't been able to get the smile off my face all week. What's not to like. High heels and a sing-along; I'm a simple girl at heart.

Oh, and I went to see the bootleg guy on Camden Market the following morning (after a very big coffee) and bought some great stuff.

Oh, and this

OASIS - the boys are in rehearsal for their new tour. If you want to go see them rehearse then email [email protected] and put "TICKETS LONDON OASIS" in the email header. I don't think anything else is needed but maybe include a mobile number. Next rehearsal date is 14th August.

You should also go to www.oasis.net and register there for tickets too.

sorry to be off topic, but that reminds me. I've heard lots of people refer to you as 'Citizen Ed' (pronounced as though it were short for Edward) but I had assumed that it was 'Citizen Eee Dee' (as in East Dulwich). Was I right, or does assumption make an ass out of you and umption? Can you settle the matter?

    • People working in shops should not be "attempting to do the bill in their head." Nor if questioned should they be  trying to "get to an agreeable number." They should be actually (not trying to) getting to the correct number. I'm afraid in many cases it is clearly more than incorrect arithmetic. One New Year's Eve in a restaurant (not in East Dulwich but quite near it) two of us were charged for thirty poppadoms. We were quite merry when the bill came, but not so merry as to not notice something amiss. Unfortunately we have had similar things happen in a well established East Dulwich restaurant we no longer use. There is also a shop in East Dulwich which is open late at night. It used not to display prices on its goods (that may have changed). On querying the bill, we several times found a mistake had been made. Once we were charged twice for the same goods. There is a limit to how many times you can accept a "mistake".  There is also a limit to how many times you can accept the "friendly" sweet talking after it.
    • Adapted not forced.  As have numerous species around the world.  Sort of thing that Attenborough features.  Domestic dogs another good example - hung around communities for food and then we become the leader of the pack.  Not sure how long it will take foxes to domesticate, but some will be well on their way.    Raccoons also on the way https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1j8j48e5z2o
    • My memory, admittedly not very reliable these days, places the shop on the block on the left hand side just before Burgess Park going towards Camberwell. Have also found a reference to Franklins Antiques being located at 157 Camberwell Road which is on that block. This is a screen shot obtained from Google maps of that address which accords with my memory except the entrance door was on the right hand side, where the grey door is, rather than in the centre.
    • The MFI was probably where Iceland is now. This post makes me feel very old - went to a 30th birthday party in the garden at the back. Oh to be 30 again!
