SeanMacGabhann
RookCan't add much to what you've already said but I do agree. It shouldn't matter what area one lives in the station owners should be on top of the situation. I gave up on that station and trains generally not long after I moved here years agoIf the train to town wasn't down to 4 carriages in the rush-hour, it was the non-existant train to Croydon after 6pm (or whatever)And yes it's horribly crowded funneling down to the exit in the evening rush-hour.All that said I'm much happier now I've learned the best routes to walk and/or bus it Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3119--/#findComment-97028 Share on other sites
Nero
Someone was displeased with the station, mainly its litter problem, and wrote about it on here. I contacted Tessa Jowell and she replied thus: Dear Nero, > > I raised this with Southern and received the reply > below: > > "The station is cleaned of litter daily at least > in the areas where staff can gain access i.e. > platforms, walkways, shelters and the ticket > office area. lpool
What dear Tessa failed to mention is that Southern lease the station from Network Rail and is therefore directly responsible for its up-keep (and is part of its franchise obligations), as would TfL if they ended up running the South London Metro services. The land behind the fence would still remain with Network Rail unless TfL decided to buy it. bawdy-nan
If the problem is the litter then its certainly fitting of the area. The people who use the station have made the mess. Nero
I did complain to Southern and got a reply. Moreover, the company actually did do what they promised in the email, that is, to clean up the station. So, please bombard the headquarters with your complaints, because you can make a difference. It takes the same time - or less - to look up a contact number or address as it does to write a line or two on here, go for a ciggie, check your Lotto numbers or watch a YouTube clip, so please have a go! Ladygooner
I noticed two rubbish bins - one by the ticket office and one by the entrance to London Bridge bound trains. Why can't people put their rubbish in these? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3119--/#findComment-97803 Share on other sites
Cassius
When people can throw their freebie newspapers over the fence when there is a designated bin for them just outside then I guess they can do anything. TJMP
Lpool, the problem - as Southern pointed out in their reply to me - is that they cannot gain access to the area behind the fencing so it is necessary for Network Rail to attend periodically to clear away the build up of rubbish. This is a ridiculous situation and one which, I hope, can be rectified as part of the renewal of the South Central area franchise.Michael P, Sue and KalamityKel - my original email was sent privately to Nero in response to an enquiry from him several months ago. He chose to post part of my reply then and has reproduced it again at greater length above because, I assume, he felt that it was relevant to what was being discussed.Tessa Jowell Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3119--/#findComment-97984 Share on other sites

TJMP
My point was simply that the fact my reply ended up on this forum had nothing to do with me or the current election.Nero, as he is aware, is free to share any emails that I have sent him. My reply was meant to be helpful to him and if he thinks others might find it useful too, that's up to him.Tessa Jowell Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3119--/#findComment-97996 Share on other sites

KalamityKel
That's all very well Tess but as you say that letter was from some time ago... what's going to be done now about the current state of the station? dc
From the Independent - April 24thMeeting community activists in a church hall in Herne Hill, south London this week, [Ken] Livingstone was visibly relaxing into his more popular persona. Sitting next to the Blairite minister for the Olympics Tessa Jowell, he cheerfully described the private train operating companies as "rapacious thieving criminals"At least you can't accuse him of sitting on the fence on this issue. Nero
For the record, I posted the reply from TJMP because it is relevant to the topic. I was not banner waving for the Labour party. I encourage other posters to write to the rail operator to tell it if they are dissatisfied with its services. Michael Palaeologus
To be fair to TJMP, I am very happy that she is taking an active interest in local transport issues. I would be interested in a reasoned response on the following issues - please note these are not cheap shots, I would like a response if possible:ELLE - how likely is phase 2 funding? Given that the London Olympic funding is mopping up alot of current London funding and that post the Olympics the other parts of the country will be clammering for "their" projects to be fundedThe Tram to Peckham - how likely is this, given the above funding issues?Would TJMP agree that the immediate area has been poorly served in terms of transport investment? More buses, perhaps, but the Walworth and Old Kent roads are now full of buses and we need proper investment in fixed track transport. Given the massive funding going into east London (deservedly) our part of London must be have the last major areas of economic deprivation which isnt properly plugged into the Underound network. Our part of SE London seems to be a blind spot for the politicians - infrastructure investment seems to get sucked to the East of us, North of us and even West of us - but never seems to land here. There has been SO much discussion of the need, but nothing happens. Other priorities appear and we just get lost. When will it be our turn?andWhat actual tangible benefits to TJMP's constituency are the 2012 Olympics going to provide? danrees
Rubbish is a key issue. I would also like to see a ticket machine on each platform. There have been times in the past few months when the actual ticket office has been closed on weekday mornings with no explanation, and the queue for the ticket machine has been horrendous. Surely these machines aren't that expensive? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3119--/#findComment-98147 Share on other sites
