Food reneged from burgers to tacos to Iberian ham, waffles, cup cakes and a fantastic cheese stall, plus some pizza and other bread stalls. UncleBen
Er "street food" = food sold from a stall on the street as opposed to a property. Dont be so 'kin ridiculous - its the same shite as urban exploring! Man up. titch juicy
Buffalo wings from Orange Buffalo in truman's brewery yard (not sure if that's it's proper name)- blinking excellent. What a shame though that I can't eat them in a stuffy 'property' at a ridiculous price where I'm obliged to order other stuff and tip a waiter. It's horrible sitting at a bench In the sun watching life go by. I think I need to man up. uncleglen
The man with the food stall on North X road was smoking yesterday- this was illegal behind pub bars etc before the smoking ban- fag ash in your food, hand removing fag from mouth, saliva being spread around...recipe for disaster Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/31490-street-food/#findComment-637640 Share on other sites

DulwichFox
Most Street food sellers on North Cross road do not have facilities to wash their hands. Also handling money / Coins and food. When I worked in the City / Borough All sandwich shops had to have someone separate to handle money. They were not allowed to handle food and take the money. StraferJack
titch - this argument has been had many times on here. You can explain about the stringent checks and H&S rules the stallholders have to follow (rules, which if the moaners were talking about something else, would have them complaining about excessive red tape)this threaad has some lurid scare storieshttp://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,542431,page=1but fortunately the food and the number of people buying it speaks for itself and we ignore the ignoratiI work at Blackfriars so I try and get up to Kings Blvd near Kings X station for some Rib Man action a couple of times a month. I've seen the mexican van from North X Rd market there a few times as well Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/31490-street-food/#findComment-637695 Share on other sites
fishbiscuits
UncleBen/edcam - what's wrong with a sociable eating experience in the open air? It's perfect for a quick/cheap lunch. And fun to go with other people and try lots of different things. Stop being so bloody miserable! edcam
It's generally far from cheap though. Restaurant priced food that you have to stand and eat in the street served from a hygienically questionable van? No thanks. El Pibe
There's an increasing gaggle of posters on here who make it hard to summon the will to live.ffs he's just asking if people know any places that make nice food to east outside now it's sunny.I for one would kill for that round my work where the most exciting culinary event of the past decade is the opening of a new greggs, makes a change from mayonaiise sodden sandwiches from Pret & Eat I guess. woodrot
an ed arthouse cimena and micro brewery for cats wearing crocs in a bugaboo that serves street food and sushi above a waitrose that is OFSTED rated as outstanding would be the tick all boxes solution. why oh why oh why has no one set this up Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/31490-street-food/#findComment-637716 Share on other sites

*Bob*
i FOR ONE can see no difference why a restaurant with tables, chairs, interior design costs and maintenance, tableware, a fixed location, waiting staff, rent, costly utility overheads, insurance for all - would be in any way different from just selling food from a van. El Pibe
I'm obviously missing a strain of hilarious in-jokes here.Does a chip van count as an irritating cultural development or is it just if a bloke selling food is somehow possessed of a nebulous quality that sets people's blowindar off, like I dunno, a three-wheeled stall? *Bob*
We should ditch this daft 'street food' title, which stupidly manages to sum-up exactly what it is in no more than two words - and go with something else. I suggest 'food sold on non-rigid plates from a mobile catering facility which does not have a licence to sell intoxicating liquor'."You fancy grabbing a bite to eat after work tonight""Sounds good. But I don't really want a full sit-down restaurant thing. Why don't we just grab some food sold on non-rigid plates from a mobile catering facility which does not have a licence to sell intoxicating liquor?" EatsDulwich
I like Brockley Market too Annette, particularly Mike & Ollie. Tried the tacos from Ambriento on North Cross this weekend - messy to eat but really good. Hot dogs from Dog Father Diner are perfect for hangovers on a Saturday morning too.Recently tried the pizzas from Van Dough, not quite Pizza Pilgrims, but good base & toppings. Loved the Roti Chai Chaat Shack that's on the Southbank until the end of the month.Locally based OFM (original fry up material) serve breakfasts, but not managed to catch up with them anywhere yet. They're at Kerb King's Cross. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/31490-street-food/#findComment-637750 Share on other sites

edcam
You could always buy a Ginsters in the Texaco garage and sit on the Goose Green roundabout and eat it. If you ask them nicely they might just charge you double so that it feels more "authentic".
