Got a big bunch - tell me what to do

Steam for 5 - 6 minutes (less if very thin). Serve on its own with melted butter & salt - or if you're feeling flush hollandaise sauce. Maybe some fresh bread to mop up butter / sauce dregs.

I think the idea is to do as little as possible to it, really. Cook it gently and don't smother it with other flavours.

just googled it Ant, it seems it's about 40% of the population and it's something to do with the body producing methyl mercaptan after eating asparagus. Also not everyone that produces it can smell it. Funny old world.

Very nice roasted slowly in extra virgin olive oil, then served with shavings of Parmesan - about 30-45 minutes on low setting.

would you want to? doesn't the fact that you can smell something mean there are teeny tiny particles of that something in the air? why would you want to stick your tongue in it?

Here's a really quick yummy lunch for you :

ASPARAGUS stick rolls

1.Steam 2 stalks of asparagus per person

2. Fry up some mushrooms in garlic with a squeeze of lemon

3. Add asparagus and mushrooms to a mayonaissed french stick

Yum yum.

from the guardian mag on sat. Steam and serve with grated boiled egg on top. My own fav is steam and serve with fried lardons or a rasher if preferred, with a twist of black pepper.

and FYI as far as 'proper' etiquette goes, apparently it is perfectly acceptable to eat asparagus with ones fingers in polite company.

Keep it simple.

Bung it under the grill for not very long with some parmesan and black pepper on top. Wonderful. Bought vast amounts from a farm in Kent last weekend ? only ?3 a kilo. Think I need to go back.

went for grilled asparagus with sliced boiled egg (grating was a step too far and it was a rare outing for the egg slicer) and loads of black pepper. Very nice.

Even better if you bbq or stir fry in a griddle pan with olive oil, maldon sea salt and lime juice.
