david_carnell
According to industry insiders Gok used to be a bit of a porker himself. His secret weight loss diet? Apples and cocaine.Gak-Wan anyone? James
I think Gok is great! Unlike your typical makeover ice queens he seems passionate, sincere and genuinely interested in the women on his show. Once met some members of a film crew who'd worked with him and they said he was great (they had a lot of negative stuff to say about various other diva-ish TV presenters).Go Gok! Bellenden Belle
Ahhhh, AnnaJ - I love Gok Wan - I didn't see that particular programme, but yes,I often shed a tear. (Also thank you for your kind words about my fashion sense .... not sure I agree, but lovely to hear!)And to be honest David Carnell - from what I have read Gok Wanm was actually bullied because of his weight problem. I think that probably explains his empathetic and compassionate approach - rather than being critical and demeaning like other fashion gurus. Our experiences shape us in the same way that apples and cocaine might shape our exterior selves!Hoorah for Gok Wan! david_carnell
I was only messin' BB. ;-) I'm sure he's a lovely chap and does wonders for women's egos across the land. Fatism - yet another prejudice to be overcome. Huzzah for Gok! And apples. Bellenden Belle
Oooh, DC - don't worry.... I hope I didn't sound too stern .... I'm very protective of poor Gok, aren't I? Taking of makeover/ trash/ self-help telly - did anyone catch Fergie doing her stuff... I watched the first episode but not last night... she was with a family up North sorting out their diet. I actually liked her. Knocked the socks off Gillian Quack McKeith - or whatever that witch's name is .... James
Gillian McKeith reminds me of Hazel McWitch out of Rentaghost. Only scarier! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3328-fashion-advice-please/page/2/#findComment-104232 Share on other sites
david_carnell
That's "Doctor" Gillian McKeith to you, James!I think she's more like Skeletor from He-Man myself.http://www.womenspeakers.co.uk/uploadedfiles/drgillianmckeithws.jpghttp://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/40577000/jpg/_40577553_hazel_mcwitch_203bbc.jpghttp://thetempest.files.wordpress.com/2007/04/skeletor.jpgSpot the difference! Ant
Good ol' Gok - he's so much better than that evil Wosserface Evilton-Grargh from 10 Years Younger (spit spit). Moos
Oh, Annaj, I saw that programme and it was fantastic - I don't usually like reality TV but I think his approach is excellent. Good on the woman, and good on "Apples Gok".And BB I have refrained from offering you any advice on the tights/leggings thingy because I live in trousers and know nothing about dresses. (I tried to wear trousers to my wedding and only wore a dress in the end because my poor mother was so distraught.) But I'm sure you will look amazing, and confident. If you're feeling bold but not quite turquoise bold, what about tights/leggings/socks in a purple-toning shade of deep pink? Bellenden Belle
But Moos - if I was tall like you I'd live in trousers too! Most of the time I look like a farmer's wife in trousers...Ooooh, wedding dresses - I loved mine! Not that I could fit in it now .... I was two stone lighter then... can you imagine - two stone!Mmmm, don't think I'm brave enough to do deep pink - I fear I will look like Zandra Rhodes! Though with her strong connection to the Bellenden Regeneration area that probably is quite befitting... Cassius
I like Gok and think he has a fantastic attitude to women of all shapes and sizes but do think having seen a couple of the programmes that they are terribly formulaic. Also I simply cannot believe that women who claim to hate themselves THAT much would strip off in public. Keef
What an interesting insight...For my 2p, I can't stand the leggings thing, either wear tights or nout ffs! That said, I know nout about what's in and what's not, and I find a lot of trends to be really ugly, so I'll shut up.It's at times like this when I am so pleased to be a bloke! Bellenden Belle
Hee hee Keef - even I'm a little shocked by this thread.I mean here we are on our second page of discussing tights versus leggings versus knee highs... and we still haven't solved the problem of world peace. And I blush to think that I have been responsible for the most vacuous thread on the forum to date.I'm a very serious person really. Even when wearing turquoise knee-high socks!Right next up ...waxing, shaving or sugaring ...relax, I'm kidding... Jah Lush
Fashion is such a transient thing. One minute it's in the next it's out. Don't follow fashion let fashion follow you. It's about attitude. Wear what the hell you like and don't give a f**k just as long as you feel good in whatever you're wearing. Brendan
It is the context I don?t get it?s mentioned in-between waxing and shaving. So I?m assuming it has something to do with hair removal. I just cannot imagine how one could use sugar to get rid of hair. What do you do, sprinkle it on? Rub cubes on yourself? Does it rot your hair away in the same way it does your teeth?
