Saturday just past. No dramas, just wasnt very relaxing and im no shrinking wall flower with bad language etc, but this was getting over the top. Spoke to manager he was helpful in the situation but not much he could do really. If they dug their heels in I wouldnt like to have got involved!

ETA: Palmerston is great, one of my faves for a pint or dinner. Very unusal on Saturday night and absolutely not the norm. In fact first time in 9 or so years so dont be put of going readers if you haveent been. Just unlucky that night and one of these things.

I think the Palmerston would be better if they re-thought the pub/restaurant separation. Maybe just a very small bar at the front. Nobody wants to pay ?40 a head for dinner while sitting next to a bunch of lairy beered up blokes.

Do mean this place, DC? http://www.mintmagazine.co.uk/general/beer-and-loathing-jfks-aka-canavans-pool-club-peckham/

Looks interesting!

Ahh, missed meeting you again then HMB!

Was with Mr Buggie in Palmerston for my birthday meal and the lairy group were there the whole time... Is weird how worrying it is when blokes start slapping each others arms & kissing each other they can still look like a fights about to kick off!

Very unrelaxing but nothing the staff could do (think it would've caused it all to kick off).

Agree buggie, we had table booked at 8, left shortly after. There was no way the manager was going to dampen those boys spirits and we were sat right beside them. Manager was dead on about us leaving and gave me my pint on the house. One couple were moved to the back just before we left. Franklins slotted us in and had a good night there.

Hope you managed to enjoy your birthday as best you could Buggie.

As I say, just one of those things and unusual.

Back on topic:

The steaks and other meat I have had in Palmerston are good, maybe they get them from The Butcher by The Plough...

  • 2 weeks later...
  • 1 year later...

F&H is great, we feel lucky to have it as our local butcher. As PGC says, nothing seems to be too much trouble for these guys.

The Butchery is good too (got some great steaks from the Bermondsey Spa Terminus branch on Saturday), but the name still bothers me! Butchery is the name of the activity/practice/occupation, not the establishment. It's like calling a school "The Teaching".

Still use Plough man with no name when we can. Very good meat. It's the lamb and pork comes from his Dad's farm I think not the beef - but it's all very good.

We have asked him to spatchcock a chicken for us a couple of times recently, really easy to cook and carve and he's more than happy to do that.

Heard him chatting on Saturday to a customer about a full pig for roasting and can also price up a full lamb !

    • Dishing the dirt is generally fine when it comes to politicians and in Farage's case he often deserves it but  nothing illegal  has been done. It is not illegal for him to give his partner a sizeable amount of money with which to buy a house and have it registered in her name. He is 64 years old and his partner is 16 years younger and so he most likely is making plans to minimise IHT. There is a sliding scale for IHT but basically a gift is free of IHT if the gift is made 7 years before the donor dies. Farage is 64 years old and his partner is 16 years younger. In 7 years time, if he lives that long, he will be 71 years old. Given that he smokes like a chimney and drinks like a fish, his odds on getting beyond 71  years may be pretty slim.  A similar  process is followed by the "bank of mum and dad"  where parents  give money to their kids to fund purchase of a property. Many who are not cash rich will mortgage their home and so release equity to fund their kids property. We did it as have many of our friends.
