I think a few people feel that the Draft House problem isn?t the concept but interior/building limitations (and maybe pricing to an extent, although cheap ale is also available)

How many beers do they usually have on draft in the Draft House these days? A couple of times I went and there was only one, which seemed to undermine the purpose (and name) of the place.

'Hoopers closed for good on Xmas Day and it certainly wasn't spit and sawdust. It was a very nice pub with a great selection of ales and a fairly good selection of wine. There was good music there and the comedy nights were fun. Damn that neighbour. I miss it.'

In my opinion, the days of the back street boozer are dead and will probably never return. There is the odd one left that has the after work regulars, but they are rare. People just don't pop to the pub to socialise anymore. It's sad, as they used to be a hub of society.

Even a mere ten years ago in summer 2003 I made a load of good friends (to this day) via the pub. I can't imagine that really happening now.

Stormbird in Camberwell is always full. I'd say Draft House didn't succeed because ED is too suburban; not the other way around.

I'd quite like something along the lines of Hart's Boatyard or The Albany both in SW London, some of you may be familiar? I think that format would work exceptionally well around here, in other words a mix of the traditional and the contemporary, the expensive and the more affordable. ED is much further along those lines, although dont get me wrong, I do genuinely hope things continue to improve for these guys as its a bold venture and its tough times, I think we all take our hats off to them and wish them well at the Draft House.

I agree with this. But Stormbird has great premises - an old pub, big windows which open and a yard people can stand around in.

Also Stormbird has a cracking landlady and more interesting beers - especially on draught but also the new hipster craze of 'craft cans' which are popular.

The Draft House's selection = Sierra Nevada, bit of Meantime, Camden etc - hardly groundbreaking these days.

Actually, I also agree with miga that it is now a simulacrum of a pub, but I don't think that's a good thing.

OK Sue - you asked for it - Jamie Hooper booked the band in December 2011 and he wanted Miller to play with the band and a fee was agreed - after the band had played, and the 'jug' was passed round, Jamie Hooper asked how much was in the jug and then deducted it off the 'agreed fee', which ad now suddenly been reduced by ?50 - he then proceeded to tell me that the 'agreed fee' was not the 'agreed fee' (I know how much I pay for Miller to come up from Brighton to play these gigs) - if that doesn't make him a knob then I don't know what does, and yes if he had been ten years younger I would probably have 'clumped' him there and then, the man couldn't run a pi55 up in a brewery - hence his pub has now closed, serves the bu55er right if you ask me

with regards to the Draught House - it's alright by me, great german / austrian beers and it's better than paying ?5.20 for a pint of Hoegaarden in the Gowlett

As for Hoopers... a deal is a deal, but I really doubt this is the best place for such disputes...
