sorry for crying off early (will work out being off day of and after drinks one of these months!!), but fab to see you all again. Is great to have a night out practically on my doorstep with such a great group of friends.

BN5, annaj & SM will all be pleased to hear no lasting damage seems to have occured from my lamppost bashing incidence... and made it home without bumping into any!!

Fingers crossed work'll be nice over the w/e!! x

Jaws and I had a great night albeit people had to lip read what I was trying to say!!

Was so great to see sm, David c, moos, b belle, and many others.. Also great to see I'm no longer classed as a newbie as we had two lovely new peeps tonight!

Looking forward to the next ones already!

Feeling 0.0005% better now

I don't remember speaking to JimmyD after all his offers of drink as well. Did you make it James?

I thought the Herne was quite a good venue - nice big garden space, and the conservatory was a good spot to put us indoors. As ever I never got to speak to everyone I wanted. And I don't remember making much sense to those I did. :-$

Kudos to strawbs for making it out with that throat as well. Jaws good to meet you as well

newbies thin on the ground - but nice to meet you Richard (and Mrs Richard whose name I can remember but as shes not a forumite I shall omit)

Good to have a chat with bob s and mrs bob s too

Ahhh ... some Andrews liver salts. Excellent idea

You are of course refering to the long established, 10pm talking rubbish watershed. Anything anyone says in a pub after 10pm can't be taken seriously and it would also be terribly bad form to be expected to live up to any promises made after the watershed.

It?s one of the drinking rules innit.

thanks for a great night all. I think Natalie must have hit me in the head with a hammer in my sleep again last night.

A day of study lost in favour of sitting eating crap and watching poor afternoon telly - god, i needed a night out! Nice to meet richard and mrs.richard (echos seanmac on memory issues), completely missed Bob S, and failed yet again to say hello to strawbs and jaws - sorry guys, a nervous man with a reduced alcohol tolerance. Have got to that funny "comfort zone" stage of having been to a couple of forum drinks and met a few people, now target those I've already met. Will endevour to be more sociable next time.

I assume that the post-pub chez carnell group are all feeling on top of the world... :-S

Motion to have the 10pm bullshit watershed brought forward to 9ish - i'm out of boozing practice so started talking crap a lot earlier than CWALD... (although was I overtaken by sheer quality ;-))

Smashing times, all, many thanks.

[edited to clarify that i was talking crap, not taking it!]

Kind of you to rush to the defense of my truffles PGC, but don't worry he's not being rude about my confectionary, I've only just got home with the truffles.

Goodness knows what he's been eating to feed the hangover, I haven't checked the fridge yet.....

Classy run round the playground last night by the way.

aah, looks like I missed a good night :( will definitely try to get to the next one!

My plan was, like MadWorld74, to stay off the booze as I'm also doing a run on sunday, probably the same one (but not for charity, just to prove to myself I'm physically capable of it).

However, despite my best intentions I might have ended up drinking with work colleagues all evening so have a bit of a headache. damn.

Looking forward to the photos for this one if there were any. Were you there Andrew?

ps I like you 10pm rule Brendan, it gets me off the hook for promising to run and win the Barry Barry at the last forum drinks. I'm sure I said that at about 1.30am !!

To be honest, I think you made the Barry Barry promise at about 10.01pm, Franki. Still qualifies under Brendan's rules, so you are still off the hook.

Andrew was there, and he took photos - feel sorry for anyone he snapped after 10pm; the rule applies to photography as well as conversation.

It's nearly 24 hrs since this all started and I stil hurt!

Had a marvellous time however. The Herne was a good summer venue with excellent real beer.

Richard and Mona (people, people, come on!) were lovely newcomers, Strawbs the perfect wife and I have a fellow Laphroig lover in PGC (if not Chav).

Lovely to have a few folks back to mine afterwards, hopefully you're all suffering as much as me.

Oh, and Chav.....I remember every torrid word of what you said but will keep it to myself until I need a favour! Your secrets are (currently) safe.

I'm on holiday for the next one so see you all in two months....

    • It's not far from Lordship Lane if you cut down Ashbourne Grove/Melbourne Grove. Depends where you start from, I guess!
    • I doubt if it was something special - it has been full a few times I've been recently and when I have been able to get a space I've been lucky and bagged the only one available. I think there are only around 15 general spaces. Others are for staff, blue badge holders or EVs. I guess in winter people are more likely to drive, it wouldn't take much to fill all the spaces with the different things going on at the surgery/pharmacy such as blood tests, picking up prescriptions. It's possible a lot of the cars are in and out in 15 mins, i've not monitored it closely. This morning with all spaces filled when I arrived there were a couple of cars loitering in the hope of a space becoming available. I didn't want to risk it. As has been said, you can drive in and out and be caught on camera and not get a ticket but I'm not sure what the grace period is, if there is one.  Like you, I don't think a significant number of people are parking there to go shopping - it's too far from Lordship Lane as I found out this morning when i had to run from LL to Tessa Jowell! i guess the car parking spaces just can't cope with the number of legit drivers using Tessa Jowell and if that's the case not a lot can be done about it.
    • Wanted near Bellenden Road: firewood. If you have any spare or unwanted firewood (e.g. left by previous owners), please let me know. Thanks!
    • I go there quite regularly (don't ask), on my own behalf and as a chauffeur for family. I have never noted people parking up, going in and then straight out again once registered. Some times of day (and some days) are much busier than others, as you might expect, especially during winter vaccination season.
