Thread in which I hope EDF-ers will share the love of a good drink - of any description, in order to increase the happiness, knowledge and well-being of all.

I will start - I recently have enjoyed, this - available from Green n Blue for a hefty (for me) ?12.25.

I find I'm drinking less wine and spending more per bottle, these days - a trade-off I am happy to make. But I find I tend to stick to a few old favourites as I'm loathe to experiment at those prices. Hence, would love some recommendations for things to try.

What bottle, pint, etc have you loved recently, and where can I get my hands on some? What are your tried and trusted old favourites? What, in short, are you drinking?

Good thread Ted.

Staying with wine and G&B, I had Sunday lunch in the Gazette Brasserie in Battersea two weekends ago and was lucky enough to share two bottles (and not have to pay) of this stuff at ?32 a pop. G&B have it for a much more palatable ?14.

2006 Clos Colombu Vin de Corse Calvi, Corsica, France

Cremant de Loire rose. Right - adds to list.

In "if you liked that, try this," return I offer you an old favourite rose of ours - Rimauresq - from Cotes de Provence. Always a hit.

Searching for something similar, I had a Bandol rose from Nicolas a while back. Roughly 13 quid from memory, and roughly 13% abv as well. Good, but (although we're in roughly the same territory) it didn't have the same lightness as the Rimauresq.

David, you've done well remembering that wine from a couple of weeks ago. I often try to make note of a decent wine I've had when out and about, but always forget what I was drinking by the time I've got home. Hence the reason for the thread, really.

Ahh, I often make the same mistake but a search of the wine list on their website provided the clues.

On the beer front the Plough currently have Adnams Regatta which is a delighful summer ale. They change their barrels pretty quick though so get in fast. I think the Adnams brewery has to be an all time favourite. The ordinary and broadside are both lovely and their seasonal beers are always excellent.

If you can't make it to the pub, the BossBros offlicense has bottles of organic Oxford Gold which is also a current fave.

What's the Oxford Gold like DC?

The Oxford Gold's lovely. Not that it'll mean much but brought back memories of a beer served in a pub I used go to back home.

Fruity but malty in a sort of golden way. It's from Brakspear.

Edit: I first had it on draft in the EDT which was amazing, but the bottles from Bossman are pretty good too.

Seconded, Tillie!

I'm drinking a Domaine de Montes Reserve (from Vinothentic, Benjaminty) from the Languedoc. Tasty, flavourful unspecial wine with lots of tannin and a deep, deep dragon's blood red. Perfect for a weekday evening and the chocolate chip biscuits I'm about to ask Mr. Moos to get me from the kitchen...

My drink of the moment is the 'Perfect Manhattan':

4-5 ice cubes in a mixing glass

1 1/2 measures of Maker's Mark

1/2 measure red vermouth

1/2 measure white vermouth

4 drops Angustora bitters

1 teaspoon maraschino cherry juice

stir gently for 10-15 secs

Strain into a Manhattan glass

Add a maraschino cherry

Serve

Rinse

Repeat.

Always repeat.

    • Hello everyone, We have lost our wonderful moggie, Cookie.  She's been missing for over a week now and was lost around the back of our house on rail track land around Croxted Road/Turney Road junction. Please do keep an eye out for her and if you see her please let us know urgently as she isn't familiar with the area at all, we are very worried.  She has a microchip (with my brother's contact details) She's black with ginger/brown markings, very distinctive. If you have had sightings of her or seen her at anytime please let do let me know, Henna 07941 047094 If you could post on your local/street groups too, I'd be very grateful. Thank you!
