In terms of punters though I remember years ago, a friend who owns a shop on LL being told that a woman's unruly young children were simply 'expressing themselves' when asked if she could control them a little more.

she told the mum, "well they're about to express themselves with a bottle of bleach, so perhaps you'd better take them out the shop".

Can't believe nobody has mentioned the wonderfully friendly and personal service you always get from Chi Chi Ra Ra.... Always a joy shopping there as is visiting so many of the friendly spots in SE22, SMBS, House of Tippler, Il Mirto, to name but a few!

Lots of shops with great service but would particularly recommend the DIY shop opposite East Dulwich station, ToastED, Rye Books and the new jewellery shop Zara Taylor on Northcross Road.

I miss the rather stiff 1950's service in the stationers, the guy in 24 Hour Digital Photos telling me that their fastest turnaround was 3 days, and The Drum running out of beer one night (a trip to Budgens ensued).

Actually, if you want to get technical, it's chock full of mistakes, both grammatical and typographical. If I were a copyreader - and I have been - I'd send it back with at least thirteen reds. My particular bugbear (aside from the overuse of commas, apostrophes and needlessly redundant clauses) is the use of multiple exclamation marks; if one is a good enough writer, one should be able to convey enough meaning with one's words as to negate the need to use more than one.
