In terms of punters though I remember years ago, a friend who owns a shop on LL being told that a woman's unruly young children were simply 'expressing themselves' when asked if she could control them a little more.

she told the mum, "well they're about to express themselves with a bottle of bleach, so perhaps you'd better take them out the shop".

Works both ways

Can't believe nobody has mentioned the wonderfully friendly and personal service you always get from Chi Chi Ra Ra.... Always a joy shopping there as is visiting so many of the friendly spots in SE22, SMBS, House of Tippler, Il Mirto, to name but a few!

I have never had anything but excellent and charming service from both the lovely people in Chener Books.

Your post is a joke, right? You're a friend of hers?

Because if not, if what you have written is "real", I'm not surprised you got short shrift.

I'd have booted you out of the shop, locked the door and permanently banned you :))

As does the phrase 'slap her down'. Your whole post, adonirum, smacks of sexist, self satisfied, smart arsed superciliousness of the highest, and creepiest, order.

Not to mention a try-hard wordy/thesaurus.com explosion.

Actually, if you want to get technical, it's chock full of mistakes, both grammatical and typographical. If I were a copyreader - and I have been - I'd send it back with at least thirteen reds. My particular bugbear (aside from the overuse of commas, apostrophes and needlessly redundant clauses) is the use of multiple exclamation marks; if one is a good enough writer, one should be able to convey enough meaning with one's words as to negate the need to use more than one.

    • Well thanks for enriching the conversation.  Would you chuck Fah - rage in too for his tax avoidance on his property?   I expect it was lead story on Jeremy Vine too.  Doesn't make it a story, just a bit more of BBC tabloid style sensationalism.  There are numerous real news stories in the UK and across the world.  And now, apt for Halloween, you have summoned up the ghost of Louisa. So for the third time, will you now eat humble pie?
