I've never quite understood what the fuss over the gowlett's pizzas was. I mean they're nice and all that, but I didn't find them anything special.

I used to like the ones the mag did back in it's weird bright yellow days.

East Dulwich GBK has really gone downhill. Went in there a few weeks ago and it was a total shambles, so that may be why they're more empty of late. When they first opened it was much better run, portions were bigger and better presented.

The Gowlett's American Hot with chilli oil and a pint of ale is a thing of beauty and remains one of my favourite meals locally. You also wont get that atmosphere in Franco Manca.

I wasn't dissing the gowlett's pizzas, I've just had better at other pubs. Best I've had in London was at a pub called The Waterfront, in Stetham, where a mate used to work.

to be honest i find it difficult to get excited about a pizza full stop.

There are clearly worse ones and better ones, but ultimately it's just stuff on bread and tomato with a bit of cheese isn't it.

Now a pret sandwich on the other hand...

Best hot pizza locally - without question, Go Go's East Dulwich Grove. Plus you can get coleslaw and mix match the base sauce, unlike the poncey allegedly authentic Italian chain eateries who charge the earth of basically cheese on toast. I quite like the cheese and baked bean pizza in Iceland too. Let the insults come my way :)

Am glad drafthouse gone as was over priced below par cheaply toshed over venue imo. Would have preferred another pub/bar to replace it though. How much food can the ganets of ED consume?!

We won the quiz a few weeks ago and didnt collect out prize (bar tab voucher) as we don't live too far away. Missed out on it now as we didnt realise it was closing.

The Draft House is a small chain. Interesting to note that none of the other pubs in this small group are closing - Clapham, Battersea et all still doing rather well and busy. I don't think it will be much longer before Adventure Bar move out, every time I walk past it seems half empty. Whereas the ones in other areas are rammed most nights. Oh Lordship Lane what have these nappy valley yummiest and their banker hubby's done to you? :)

Bet the Drafthouse did though when they handed out the 'prize'. Try redeeming at another branch as they're not closing.

I think Adventure does do a good trade on weekend nights from around 10pm onwards. Can't see it apealling to many at any other time of the week.
