I fully appreciate that she has a caring nature but apart from warning us about the very obvious threat poison or mechanical traps pose to those other than their intended victims (vermin) why did she feel the need to tell us all about the whole incident other than fulfill some attention seeking praise along the lines of, 'wow you're so brave and kind hearted' and 'I feel so sorry for you, hope you're o.k'. What most of us would've done was put the whole episode behind us and get on with our lives which is exactly what I did after dispatching the unfortunate bear in Canada. I only mentioned it to serve as an example to others what to do after a distressing incident such as finding an animal close to death but it appears to have fallen on deaf ears. How is the volanteering going at the Fox project or have you not got round to it yet? If I step on an ant today do you want me to tell you how I tried to nurse it back to good health and the tears streaming down my face after I saw it stand on it's own feet and bravely walk back into the garden by itself. Get a grip.

BBW, everyone deals with an upsetting situation in their own way. We are all psychologically different. So comments like 'get a grip, 'get a life' are not something that are needed here.

'but I didn't feel emotional about it and didn't rush off to tell everyone about it on the internet because as they say, 'it's just one of those things'.

If the above was how you preferred to deal with that fact that you shot a bear in the head, then that's entirely up to you. I would make no comment on your decision because I wasn't there and wouldn't be so rude.

Please do not continue to surmise that I need any sympathy from any of you, and that I somehow am so emotionally cripple that I need to come onto a forum in order to make myself feel better.

'Get a grip wasn't' aimed at you. What puzzles me apart from the warning on traps is why you posted this event on this forum. You obviously knew that the death of a small creature that in story books is considered cute/crafty would invite replies of sympathy. So why did you post this event?

The forum is a place to share experiences, good/bad, happy/not so happy. It's a place to make people aware and for ideas and thoughts to be passed from one to another.

I had no secret objective in mind, other than to write about something that I had experienced.

I also knew full well that some would not share the same attitude as me, but that's essentially what a forum is all about, isn't it?

only my defense mechanism, not agression. And people only defend themselves usually when they are being singled out. And yes, I don't expect everyone in ED to feel the same way as I do, so indeed there was bound to be some 'differing' opinions. You make it sound very underhand and calculated Jimbob. Nothing nearly as exciting as that, I assure you.

I do! MadWorld, perhaps we should face it that some people like animals and care etc etc, others don't. As Tony says, I'm proud to know which group I fall amongst.

oh! hang on a minute! let me drag out my rifle from under the stairs and go out into the night and pump some lead into that fox cub.Do it a favour.

As you can appreciate PGCrasher, not everyone has the same 'outlook' on how to deal with animals in pain as bigbadwolf.

Thank God.

Each to their own, ay.

Although shooting the bear may seem barbaric I can assure you it was the quickest and most humane means of ending such obvious misery and not some ruthless alternative to satisfy a blood lust, we were also hundreds of miles from the nearest town. I appreciate you may not have experience of life in the wild (not trying to sound macho but it was very remote) but what would you have done in my situation Madworld74, sat with the poor creature whilst waiting for the weekly helicopter to arrive with pain relieving medication.

Oh enough already people. I like a good ol' barney now and again but ffs put a sock in it the pair of you.

I think we've heard enough of both mawkish sentimentality over a fox, and of McGuiver's bear shooting in the Canadian wilderness.

Please, for the love of all that is good and holy, lock this down!

    • Hi Merry Christmas no joy with that Paul Hackett email thanks
    • Miss Robson is the last of the old school independent vets. All the chains are have seriously hiked their prices over the last few years which now makes pet ownership only possible for the wealthy few. Even with pet insurance -( which often excludes items or has ‘deductibles’ ) it is just so much money. A visit with some medication is often £150 - £200. The vets themselves are excellent.
    • Awful. A Google search came up with this, but will he check his office email over Christmas? Maybe worth also contacting local councillor?
