Ballet classes

Hi,

My three year old daughter is about to start ballet lessons with South London Dance studios. I have read seriously mixed reviews about them on here and other sites. I have also found the staff to be fairly pushy so far and think maybe this is not the place for us. Could anyone recommend any other dance classes for this age group in the area.

I am not sure if PUSH studios do classes for this age range but I know them for ballet lessons so maybe worth a call and the staff there are all fantastic.

Hi there, my two daughters (13 & 11) have danced at South London Dance Studios (SLDS)since they were 3 and 7 respectively and both of them (very different personalties) absolutely love it there.

I have found the dance teachers to be very committed and the children progress to the next class up as and when the teachers think they are ready - this is very much dependant on the individual child. There are regular opportunities to meet with the teachers for feedback during the year. Threre is also a full-scale show every 3-4 years - both girls have participated in more than one of these and loved the experience.

There is a certain level of commitment expected if you choose SLDS: your child will be expected to attend regularly, be on time and in the correct uniform, also to practice for exams. If you want a more casual kind of dance class this might not suit, but we've never found it a problem - hope this helps.

Hi can second eos dance. Wonderful teacher my daughter has been going for 2 years and loves it. Not pushy at all. But very encouraging, can't fault the classes at all. New term starts tomorrow morning.

Two of my three are at slds, they love it there and my two year old really wants to start.

I spend a lot of time there as one of my daughters really wants a career in dance so does quite a few classes and I find the teachers really nice. The corridor outside one of the studios gets annoyingly congested during some class changes but the children don't notice.

My youngest is often in and out of the office and sometimes cheekily steps into the studios and is always treated really sweetly.

The children get to take part in festivals if they are talented and every child is allowed to take part in the shows that the school put on. As the children get older more commitment is asked of them but they actually find that exciting and can't wait to move from pink clothes to purple to then wearing the flowing national skirts.

There are many older girls at the school during the weekday evenings and it seems safe and sociable.

There are about 800 children at slds I think so that is probably why they can be quite orderly such as getting payments in ontime etc

Oh. And both my girls say that they would rather spend everyday at dance school and just weekends at real school. I do think that any negative comments about slds are about the parent's feelings and not about how much fun the children are having and how well they are doing.
