It's an interesting enough site for the Dulwich Estate to do something a little more creative with this time given this land is on the fringes of the estate. It would be nice to see them drop their ultra conservative approach for once and to consider more progressive ideas - using their charitable status to endorse some kind of co-funded mixed housing /workspace project for key workers/local start ups?.
We get all the leaflets regarding the site as we are neighbours. I believe from a few sources that Dulwich Estate want it's usage to stay the same, bar and grill or very similar. The rumours of Tesco and McDonalds we have all heard are just never going to happen.. Dulwich Estate will just sit on it until something they like comes along, I'm sure. It is getting a bit of an eyesore though, and I keep seeing people in the car park at 1am loitering round. What happened to the security that were always parked outside? Put there just after they boarded up after removing squatters last year..

I disagree MrBen. The Dulwich Extate is ultra conservative for good reason. They have defended the interests of this unique corner of London to protect it from development for generations. Developing it into a mixed use residential/workspace would more than likely see the loss of yet more greenery and it will end up just like every other corner of inner London. I'm sure most locals would vigorously oppose any residential development and rightly so. Make use of the Grove Tavern again please, some decent pub company!

No you don't. Where or what is your source? Show some proof. You haven't got any have you.

If, as you say, you are "giving locals a heads up" about the Harvester site, perhaps you could provide some evidence of what you are supposedly giving us a heads up about?

There was talk of a Travel Lodge in a southern part of Southwark, this site would be ideal for a Travel Lodge or small premier inn. We could do with some budget hotels at this end of Dulwich. I know we have the Queens at the Palace and a Travel Lodge in Penge but it would be good to have something here which has disabled facilities i.e. lifts etc.

We went for Sunday lunch at the Dulwich Wood House pub yesterday - I would categorise that as out of the way as well, but it was packed. A big, family friendly pub would probably still work on that site if there was a nice big beer garden for the summer and a decent car park as it couldn't rely on passing footfall.

Still think a hotel would be better there.

I see no reason why the site can?t work as a pub/restaurant

But I can say why I think it hasn?t worked in many years

The various pubcos who owned the place (most recently Stonegate. Before them, Mitchel and Butler) were very confused about what they thought it should be but more damagingly, never seemed to employ/pay enough for good staff and management

In the 13 years I used to (occasionally) go there the one constant was very disinterested staff, sticky tables and a general sense of decay.

I wouldn?t for a moment think that another Antic or Capital pub in the area would automatically be a good thing ? but I would be fairly certain that if they did take it on they would make a good go of it (they may well have already investigated and done their own sums to be fair)

It is a bit of a no mans land, true ? but people did try and go there, only to be constantly let down

All that said the Hotel/bar combo would be a good fit as well

    • With fibre you are paying for the speed, which is the number, yours is 300 so if you did a lot of gaming, for example, you would want the fastest possible.  If it's just office work or maybe streaming on Netflix you likely won't need as fast, but, if there are a lot of people in your house all doing their own thing on different devices, then faster speeds are better.  I don't rely on my Wi-Fi much other than when I am using my mobile.  I use Ethernet cables to connect up everything, I Have one cable running from my router, along the skirtings and through a hole I drilled in the wall to another room.  I have attached the plusnet speed guide which gives you an idea of how it works.
    • I'd reread what you posted and try to summarise.  It just comes across as a rant.
    • Just shows, to me, once proud to be a citizen of UK.. now.. well if we pay/contribute to services - nhs, police, fire etc and folk who have made this there home - no matter what creed or culture.. for the love c of God, can someone  please explain to me.. how we have working royals who like them or not, have tried and continue to actually support and make a change and then we have Andrew.. who just destroys everything.. not just him, or royalty but his own children..  I had great admiration for The Queen - and respect.. as have a huge number of people.. but.. these old traditions where gosh.. live rent free and can’t get chucked out until I believe 2070? From what I scanned..well he has and continues to have it all.. has to go thru what old rules? Etc.  doubt very much he has even kept the upkeep maintenance up on his abode.. and do the shite keeps on pulling up.. What has Andrew done for UK or for that matter since he was 20?? Do please tell me       Totally off topic, before anyone jumps down my throat.. I just do not get how anyone is proud to be British at this point in time. Whoever is in power, seems to be able to help themselves to the public purse with no redress at all - Covid is a great example of lining of pockets.. Millions  given to Rowanda, so one is led to believe, to help with refugee problem and one can’t get a plane load off!  I simply do not get it at all. Use of food banks in UK growing yearly, homeless as well, nhs, police, fire service etc all on their knees..
    • Have applied the green roof at a number of properties and no issues you are concerned about detected. Have issues with cats defecating in the vicinity, however, they are not selecting the green roof specifically. Use decent compost, slow release fertiliser specific for green roofs, and lay it methodically not leaving blank patches. It looks amazing when cared for and adds value.
