Vegiterean Meal for Valentines (cooking advice not restaurant)

Recommended Posts

My annual valentine mantra (flowers/meal/beasting) still holds true but I am looking to cook my missus a nice meal.

She's a veggie, so looking for

Veggie meal

Reasonably low ingredient list

Decent, implying some effort (cheese on toast is not helpful - although very nice)

Not too long in the kitchen

Forum, do your magic....

serious eats is a great site for recipes and methodology

every Feb the main guy goes from hardcore meat eating to vegan

the site picked the following as best vegetarian from 2013

But this looks interesting enough for me to do it this weekend

(bolognese yes, but have a read)

Were I to be in your predicament, ????, I'd prepare something more time-consuming the day before (too late?) which goes in the oven in the day (perhaps a celeriac and potato gratin with wild mushroom and leek filling?) and turn up the potential beasting factor on the day with a groovy Ottolenghi-style salad.

Failing that.. Egg and chips?

The parmigiana and the tartlet are only vegetarian if the parmesan is omitted. https://www.vegsoc.org/saycheese#.Uv3qNSg6E20

Let us know what you cook, Quids.

Sorry I can't be much help. I have some vegetarian cookbooks you could've borrowed, but you will probably find a better selection of recipes on-line.

Good on you for doing your bit to make Valentines day special.

I hope you find something great to cook & have a lovely evening.

I would suggest a pizza..

You can buy pizza bases... Passata, Mozzarell Cheese, You choice of toppings.

Mushrooms , Green / Red Pepper , Green Chillies if you want to spice it up.

Some Garlic Bread.

Nice bottle of Red.

Fairly simple....

Probably way too late for your Valentine's meal, but my suggestion would have been to make Spaghetti with Gorgonzola Sage your main course. It's just so tasty, simple and quick to prepare. You can have it all done and dusted in the time it takes to cook the pasta.

I can't find the original recipe I followed but this one is pretty close, though I'm a bit more generous with the sage and use gorgonzola dulce as opposed to the stronger one which isn't stated: http://flavorofitalyblog.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/spaghetti-with-gorgonzola-sage-sauce.html

    • I've planted a meadow out front, it needs a lot of work.  It's lovely until August and then grotty until the next spring as once the flowers have died back it doesn't have a lot going for it.  Clover is the last one to flower.  It will get admiring looks when in bloom. I laugh quite loud when I pass one neighbour with plastic grass, not only is it dead to nature it is not even laid well,   I should be crying.
    • Andy did a number of jobs for me and was very reasonably priced. He's very helpful, arrives on time, pays attention to detail and a nice man. I'll be using him again and recommending him to my friends.
    • A Y13 student of Art at The Charter School North Dulwich left their A3 art portfolio on the 37 bus after school on Friday 13 February - travelling from North Dulwich to East Dulwich.  TFL and the bus garage have been contacted but do not have it.  It is a large A3 transparent bag with a black art folder inside.  The student's name is inside the portfolio and the bag is stamped with the school name.  If anyone happens to have picked up the portfolio or has any leads please do contact [email protected]  We are really keen to get our student's work back safely!
    • It is sectarianism, which is a really strange stance for the Green party (as is traditionally understood) to take. I don't understand it at all - and this is evident in their UK and O/seas policies
