Help!

I'm a single female whom has bought in the area so am here to stay for a while. I don't know anyone in the immediate area but would greatly appreciate any tips on where to socialise without resorting to taking up knitting or looking like a complete desparado.

Best suggestion (with results) wins a prize......

Thank you.

Welcome!

Don't know if you're full-time employed but how about doing a shift once a week in one of the bars around here? Get paid to socialise...

If that's a no-go I'd suggest joining one of the running clubs (do a search on here) or the tennis club up the road.

The east dulwich social club (on facebook here http://www.new.facebook.com/group.php?gid=17097705951) organizes various events too. Not that I have made it to one yet, but I only moved here just over a month ago myself. But Ihave been to a couple of forum drinks and everyone was very friendly.

I tried the running group too and people were nice there too, but I've had to conclude I'm just not the running type (fancy way of saying I'm a bit lazy). There is a salsa classs mentioned on another thread that I mean to check out - think it's on a Wednesday. Though I get the impression they struggle to get enough men coming along...

I like the sound of a Scrabble social! But if you do like tennis then Camber tennis club is really sociable and suitable for beginners too as new members get a series of tennis lessons free. Plus there's a social Monday evening session aimed at not brilliant women players. I have to admit I'm biaised as I'm the secretary but do have a look at the website - www.tennis-at-camber.org - the club is on the south circular by the junction with Lordship Lane opposite the Harvester

Nowt wrong with knitting.

But hobbies are always a matter of personal taste. As I don't know you, I can't really suggest specifics, but its worth looking at noticeboards in the library or on one of the shops on Lordship Lane - they advertise various groups and classes. One might appeal to you.

Welcome CW1!

keep an eye out on this forum for people arranging drinks and get togethers - sometimes they seem to happen impromptu :) also i think the ED forum has a curry club if you want to add a bit of spice to your life... i'm sure someone will post who has more details than i...

As Sean suggests, pop along to a forum drink up. Feel free to bring a friend for moral support, but you'll meet a varied bunch of people, all of whom have seemed very friendly and pleasant when I've spoken to them. It's definitely a way to meet people. I am from the area, but have met several people through this forum who have become good pals! I also know of one or 2 people who were in your boat that have now met a wide range of people in the area after coming along to a drink up.

Next venue is yet to be confirmed, but it'll be on Friday 3rd October. A thread will be put up in the Lounge area of this forum when the venue has been agreed.

Oh, and greetings! :)-D

    • ..........................  suspend visas from countries that do not "play ball" on returning over-stayers and illegal migrants. why "could" . Why not do it now? Getting it done now would  undermine Reform's position and give Labour a "win" - even though the Tories had signalled they were going to do this before they got turfed out.
    • Second time that Leon has come to the rescue . He was here within 2 hours -- ok he was working locally but he didn't have to fit me in .Shows what he's like ,he'll try and get to you asap .And he carries a number of commonly used parts and doesn't have to go off and get them . (You might think that this isn't deserving of comment ,but believe me it is ! ) Great guy ,100% recommend .
    • Hi all,   Does anyone have a two or three person tent they no longer want or need? As compact as possible would be ideal in order to carry in a bag/on a bike. Many thanks Joe
    • Today between approximately 3:30 and 4:00 PM, someone entered the back door of an estate agency and stole items from the kitchen, including a microwave and kettle. The individual then proceeded to trash the kitchen before leaving. This happened near Shawbury/Lordship Lane. If anyone saw a man carrying these items or acting suspiciously in the area around that time, please report it to the authorities and let me know. if anyone has access to cameras located near the area, your help would be appreciated.  Let’s help keep our community safe.
