Before The Blue Brick (the Stanley Kubrick) Cafe went veggie, it was a good fry. If a bit haphazard service at times. Prettys does a top notch fry which is huge. Down by The Cherry Tree is the Grove, Greek Cypriots running it and had some good frys there.

The must haves: bacon, fried bread, shrooms, tomatoes (sometimes tinned), egg (fried and runny) and Heinz beans. Will trade sausage for extra bacon. Black pudding if it's available, but seldom seen in the caffs round here.

Partial to scrambled egg in a well buttered roll. The roll is crucial as you know.

Never have chips for brekkie. That's unhealthy and can't be good for you.

Wash it down with a mug of sweet tea

In Scotland, the triangular potato scone is a traditional staple. Weirdly they're also meant to be big on the Isle of Man.

In Ireland they have a slightly thicker equivalent called a potato farl - but I'd need to check with Irish forumites as to whether they were/are a breakfast staple.

I've never been partial to a farl Mr Ben. Not that common where I come from either

my potatoe of choice for breakfast is a sauteed potato

Anyway this is all "what constitutes a good breakfast" rather than where does a good one

I've been to all of the ones on the lane and of late Johnnies was the best. The one up by the Plough is proper old school (I remember a pre first ever Barry Barry brekkie there with Carnell)

The one next to Franklins was solid but great coffee

Hash browns are an American invader, but then so are baked beans, so how far back do we push regional Breakfast item traditions? As far back as Sir Walter discovering the potato in the Americas? Bubble and Squeak is a very traditional addition in a London fry up and always has been as far back as I can remember as a kid- i cant personally eat my fry up without this patticular potato product. Just as square sausages in Scotland, black pudding in Ireland and the north of England, and the curious Hog's pudding in Cornwall and Devon. I personally would rather fried bread than toast or hash browns anyday - but I'm just a believer in being a true all out unhealthy breakfast lover.

    • And I replied: Mandelson and Trump have much in common. They are both shallow, vulgar and vain. They both fetishise wealth and power, irrespective of who holds it or how it was accumulated. They were both close friends and associates of the late Jeffrey Epstein and have moved in the same circles, as Ghislaine Maxwell’s address book allegedly confirms. Recognising another who is utterly transactional and lacking in a moral compass, there’s every chance of “Petie” fitting right in Mar-a-Largo. That Starmer couldn’t anticipate that Mandelson’s past behaviour would be problematic just proves how inept this government is.
    • Can't agree with that because he is a superb communicator - a really smart and  smooth talker. He studied PPE at Oxford and was communications director for Labour for many years.  Setting aside the "minor"  indiscretions during his time in government he has all the smoothness and ability to flatter Trump without appearing obsequious. Plus he can manage and exploit  Trump’s ego. He is highly polished socially, comfortable in elite circles, skilled at making personal connections. He can flatter and disarm, which is a useful tactic with Trump, who responds well to personal respect and praise. As a former EU Trade Commissioner and Cabinet minister, Mandelson understands international relations, trade, and diplomacy. He knows how to frame issues in terms of “wins” that Trump could claim credit for. I honestly hope that he survives.
    • He is toast  he should never have been appointed  and starmer flannelling about all of this shows exceptionally poor judgement  a disgrace all around
    • Like everyone, super impressed with Leon. Came when he said he would. Gave great advice. Job done really quickly and efficiently. Perfect. Highly recommend
