Coman
Dulwich is crying out for a decent car park, especially on Lordship Lane. As a local businessperson, free parking is an attraction to clients and a facility that helps to run the business more efficiently. Local shops, businesses and other amenities in the area would be greatly served by a good sized, commercially run car park.If you consider that a car park would benefit the area, please add your comments below. edcam
(a) There is nowhere to put one and (b) if there was land that was of a suitable size, it would be developed, no question. Otta
Exactly. Only space is the police station, but I think a school might just be preferable.Or you could pave over Goose Green... DaveR
Car parks attract cars. I don't think we want to encourage more traffic to LL and surroundings. StraferJack
does LL want for custom?you could fit MORE people along the lane at the weekend? Jeremy
EP, New York style stacked car parking is so retro. What we need is a Japanese-style automated parking system. We'd pull up into a discrete garage door on the corner of Frogley Rd, and our cars would be whisked into a vast underground cavern. DulwichFox
There is car parking space at The Grove Tavern. A Park and Ride/Walk could be organised even on a temp. basis. ultraburner
Goose green would be ideal; seems a bit surplus. Lop down the trees, slap down some tarmac... job done! srisky
If the car park is free, as the OP suggests it should be, what's to stop it becoming off-street parking for local residents or a place to park before catching at train at ED station? Robert Poste's Child
Probably not close enough but it would be possible to road-test the idea using the empty space on the ED side of the Dulwich Hospital site perhaps? PokerTime
I'm very impressed with Japan!Doesn't Lordship Lane have ample parking anyway? I often see empty spaces in the free bays on LL itself and there always seems to be a space a short walk away in one of the side streets, none of which are parking controlled. Japan does indeed have many automated/robotic car parks, but they're not usually quite so glamorous... usually anonymous concrete towers. jimmyraj
If you really need to drive to Lordship Lane, there are always spaces on surrounding roads, even in peak time on a Saturday. Absolutely no need to build a car park. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/43212-crying-out-for-a-car-park/#findComment-738860 Share on other sites

StraferJack
also worth noting a bold opening statement "dulwich is crying out for.." and ending with "if you agree post below"so if only people who agreed did post then it would prove his caseaccountants, eh? tcha Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/43212-crying-out-for-a-car-park/#findComment-738892 Share on other sites
worldwiser
No. Dulwich in no sense requires a car park. What a waste of space that would be. There's plenty of free parking already. wavyline girl
Tarmac over Goose Green?someone's having a laugh, ! hope!Lordship Lane was, and should be about local shops and facilities, for local people. Why would you need to driver there.Again, it seems like this is driven by relatively new incomers to the area who are trying to turn the placeinto something it isn't? a new Richmond!
