Come on Keef, you old grump.

The question should be "best Christmas songs apart from 'Fairy Tale'"

I say Greg Lake "I believe in Father Christmas"

or Pretenders "2000 Miles"

Merry Christmas from the Ramones (circa ?89 I think): http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=niB1IXVVwdI

And here are some traditional ones for while you?re hanging up the decorations next weekend.

I thought the point was

Best ever Christmas song that you can hear at any time of the year without wanting to punch an elf.

At this time of year I love Slade. And who could forget Stay another day by E17?

For the love of god, how many more horrendous covers of that tune are we going to have to endure?

As I read somewhere else and will now try and pass off as my own wit, oh the irony when the winner of xfactor has to sing the line:

"....you don't like music, do you?"

'Hallelujah' is one of those songs that is a victim of it's own quality. There have been a couple of great versions, Jeff Buckley's being my favourite by a mile, but there are many more terrible versions. Catherine Jenkins has it on her latest album ffs!

I actually watched half of X Factor on Saturday for the first time this series. The black girl has got a very good voice.

I also watched the whole of Strictly, and then made a point of watching the results show yesterday. I need to stop this staying in at the weekend nonsense, it's bad for me!

Stay another day was a master stroke. Take a soppy song with no link to christmas, add some bells at the end, sorted, christmas number 1.

The way George pronounces "special" in: "this year, to save me from tears, I'll give it to someone special" predates its current usage by about 20 years, but always makes me smile at the thought that George is indeed looking for someone "special" to give his love to.

I think that was ambiguous, I was referring to FTONY as being that song.
