I used to have this pub in my Will - that when I died people should congregate there for a kneesup. I LOVED the Firkin beers and they made Dogbolter on the premises. Then it was sold to Friary Meux and was no more. So I changed my Will! The fabulous clock still dominates the interior though.

May even go to this one.

going by my experience at my first drinks

- trepidations

- last minutes urge to bottle-out and leave before meeting anyone

- dive in and hope for the best

- ooh most people seem really sound!

- OMG is that the time - how can it be kicking out already I've only been here an h.. oh

- possible retirement to a late night venue (Kebab & Wine has been used in the past) or a nearby forumites house if everyone is in the mood to continue drinking

- large hangover next day

The last 3 still happen to me every time!

See you on Friday

Most people reveal - depends how comfortable you are really. Don't worry if you don't want to. Mine is just an Irish tranlation of English name anyway so it's no big secret

Sounds like plenty of people coming - good stuff. We usually get 15-20 people but often 30 floating around throughout the night - see youse there

I think most people try to use real names, but for some reason most people seem to end up calling me mockers, though it's not hard to guess my real name.

I try to use real names where I remember them, but sometimes only the forum names stick in your head after they've said:

"hi I'm jenny" you have a nice chat some of which will consist of "oh, I post as lightning monkey".

Amazingly when you bump into them in Sainsbury's 3 weeks later, it's the lightning monkey that sticks.

How do you pronounce emc anyhoo?

    • Thank you for the warning. There have been instances of vulnerable people targeted by scammers in this area, so we do need to be mindful of our neighbours.
    • Lots of very good places around Rye Lane. I'd say there are the long-standing great places like Levan, Mr Bao, Oi Spaghetti, Peckham Bazaar and (towards Bellenden Rd) Begging Bowl, Made of Dough, and Artusi.  And then the newer places that we've been enjoying include Janda Diner, Taquiza, Hausu, En Root, Messy Mary (currently at Copeland Social). We are spoilt for choice really! Depends what you're looking for - some of the above are cheap and cheerful, others much more fancy
    • Yep dangerous and worrying and plenty on here seem to either not grasp that or are perfectly ok with it - which is more worrying you think cancerian or any other reform voter will be any happier if reform win? Sure, just like Brexit they will laugh at the lib-tears but as reality hits, nothing but more anger and complaints   And as we see with Brexit and Trump, finding out too late doesn't solve anything
    • Yes, and it's dangerous and worrying.
