Leave me out of it. I never kick people when they are enjoying food.

This coffee shop makes me happy. I have a conversation with the Italian owner every morning when I get a coffee and she's sweet. It's so much nicer than the chain shops; at La Scala they genuinely value each customer. It's Birchall tea that they serve which I hadn't had before. Hope they do well.

Oh, yes, almond horse shoes from Blackbird, love them too.

However, just a quick word on La Scala. They are lovely people running it, the coffee is great, and, they don't take the mickey when it comes to pricing. I recently checked out Cafe G (lovely space, great coffee) and they get their croissants and pastries from the same North London bakery as La Scala. Can't remember the exact difference but think Cafe G charge around a quid more for the almond croissant, for example. Make of it what you will, just thought I'd let you know.

I have my Aussie SIL (from Melbourne) staying with me at the moment. Every morning she goes down to Boulangerie jade and has a coffee there. Her take on the situation is that London has improved massively over the last few years (coffee wise), and some places are great and others are not. One odd thing she has mentioned though, is that frequently she has to send coffee back in Melbourne because it's a bit lukewarm.

Just want to sing the praises of the new coffee place on Grove Vale. The coffee and cakes are delicious, lots of lovely lunch options and really friendly staff. Much nicer than the rival chain across the road! Their croissants and pan au chocolats are yummy too.

    • Thank goodness for Greg. I had an awful situation whereby I was notified that water was leaking from my flat into the flat below me. I was 150 miles away at the time and had a panicked journey home not knowing what I was going to face.   I called Greg (after seeing reviews on the forum) as soon as I arrived home in the evening and he arrived just after 10pm and was able to shut off the problem. He had to come back to finalise the job which turned out to be caused in a communal area whereby there was a blockage in the stack pipe.   Greg worked quickly, efficiently and informed me every step of the way as to what he was doing and why. He also cleaned up really well afterwards.  Greg's charges are very reasonable and he will definitely be my "go-to" if I have any other plumbing issues in the future.
    • Real Life was released in 1978. Yes it is a classic album.
    • Another recommendation for Nick. Copying below the review I have just left for him on Google: We don’t usually leave reviews for people online but are making an exception for Nick. He made fitted wardrobes for our loft conversion and did an absolutely fantastic job. The wardrobes are beautiful. Nick is passionate about producing a quality product, and also one that is bespoke to his clients’ needs. He guided us through the design to establish how we would actually use the space and built something that is fantastic. From start to finish the process was quick and each day he and his assistant Sean left the space tidy. I’m not sure we are easy people to please so the fact we are leaving a 5* review (indeed leaving a review at all) speaks volumes about what a great job Nick (and Sean) did. Nick also built a cupboard for our downstairs bathroom as part of the job and again it is brilliant. We would recommend them to anybody.
    • Just had a flatpack IKEA wardrobe put together by the dynamic Father & Son team (Victor & Carl) and over the years they have come to the rescue with their quality workmanship and all round great people to work with. https://www.handymaneastdulwich.co.uk Thank you once again.
