Can't abide either, Leonard Cohen's singing is music for manic depressives and Dylan's nasal whining does my head in.

For me it's mainly all of the "artists" who sell millions but write none of their own stuff, don't have a say on who's in their band and who are basically TV/record company puppets.

Prime example: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/rockandpopmusic/10563266/Its-a-joke-that-Sam-Smith-is-the-Sound-of-2014.html

Bob Dylan's voice is (well, was) perfect. It couldn't be improved upon and any other voice singing his songs sounds wrong.

In the same way that Lou Reed's, Neil Young's, Wayne Coyne's, Shane MacGowan's, Shaun Ryder's etc etc voices are all perfect.

If they could all sing note perfect across 4 octaves their songs would sound horrendous.

Wrong - love Aretha Franklin. She can sing, unlike Bob moan drone Dylan.

ETA: I always found Whitney Houston rather shouty though.

I'm with you there. I was totally smitten with her back in the sugarcubes days. First couple of albums were really special (though haven't stood the test of time so well).

But some of her more recent stuff, well, it scares me frankly.

This video from a couple of years ago is pretty awesome in the truest sense of the word.

That said, she follows her own path, she is always original, her music is usually interesting and challenging (if not always engaging and occasionally terrifying). I won't willingly listen to all her albums, but god damn i'll always give them a chance.

    • Of course they do, watching cookery shows and buying cook books is a national pastime. However you raise a good point that some people claim they are time poor and end up eating out / takeaways as sometimes a quick macciedee is cheaper and easier than making a quick nutrious family meal.  However to put it in balance, not many people have the knowledge, confidence and time to cook Persian so good luck to team persepolis on this venture.
    • London doesn’t have a lot of Argentinian places specialising in empanadas, which suggests demand isn’t that great. There are many neighbourhoods with none at all or even nearby.  So for a mini-chain like Chango (several branches in SW London) to open here where there’s already a well established family run place doing the same feels a bit off.  I’ll be giving Chacarero my ongoing custom.
