I saw Wenger's quote on the BBC about Ronaldo's arrogance, "Sometimes his arrogance is provocative" ... which you might read between the lines as Wenger wishing he still had players like Tony Adams and Martin Keown..

It's a wonder that Ronaldo has never been seriously injured, although his style dictates that he dives over a tackle rather than making a 50-50 challenge so perhaps that is the reason.

For me, a player who has class, is complimentary about fellow players. You always hear likes of Torres, Rooney, Gerrard, Messi talking about other great players... but with Ronaldo all you get is, 'I am the 1st, 2nd and 3rd best in world' ... and this week telling a Newcastle player, 'You're a rubbish footballer'.

Ronaldo is the boy who cried wolf. Sometimes he is justified in his histrionics and others he's just play acting. Because of that, sometimes things just won't go his way. Rodney but Lionel, but he only has himself to blame.

Oh how I laughed on Sunday when he was booked for "that" dive/tackle.

An amazing footballer, but once of the most arrogant that has ever graced a football pitch. I think the "you're ugly" response was probably one of the worst things that Taylor could have said to him.

Ronaldo does have a face only a mother could love. Or a WAG.

He just invokes a primal urge for violence. One stepover, two, three, SMACK!

There was an article in the paper today where Wenger called for more protection against thuggish players. Whilst I agree that constant dirty play and career-threatening tackles detract from skill and technique-based football it would me a shame if the fan-favourite "hardman" disappeared from the game.

I guess they're taking a leaf out of Fergusons book eh?

Why doesn't anyone have a pop at Ryan Giggs. After all Giggs has a suitcase full of medals and has been there almost as long as Fergie. Anyway any idea why Giggs never gets any stick!?

Perhaps it is because he is the polar opposite of Ronaldo!

I've never heard anyone say a nice word about Ronaldo or Ferguson. Never.

Two Ronnies? No pun intended? The man's got a point, Giggs is top player and has never(at least as far as I can remember) done anything to bring upon himself the kind of nonsense the show pony gets himself involved in. Giggs is a consumate professional. Happy now?
I think he's a fabulous player with issues. I also think he is hacked at and abused by less talented players every week and I sometimes think he's justified in his reactions. I'd be interested to see how you'd reacted if he was a Liverpool player. I'd also be interested to know how Atila used to react when Pires tried his shenanigans week in, week out. Owen was/is a diver but I don't expect you to have a pop at him as an ex-Liverpool player.
George Best was hacked at week in week out by real hardcases like Chopper Harris and Norman "Bites yer legs" Hunter but you never saw him diving or going down like a dying swan because he was a real man unlike Ronaldo who's a big girls blouse in comparison.
Pires did dive, but why can't you take on the praise for Giggs which myself and others have given and balance it against the fact that Ronaldo is a tool, great player yes, but a tool nonetheless. Messi gets hacked at every single week without fail, the game against Real Madrid was shocking, but he just gest up and gets on with it. God alone knows how Fergie would react if Ronnie every got his leg broken like Eduardo by some jouneyman player.

Sorry, I didn't realise I was supposed to bow and scrape when you praised one of our players.

I'll doth my cap next time. I don't give a flying one whether you think Ronaldo is a tool, he is a great player, who Liverpool or Arsenal would take at the drop of a hat and let's face it there aren't many players in either of those teams that you could see going the other way.

    • I completely agree with you - and last night was really terrible where I am. Between midnight and 1am was the worst, where it genuinely felt like a war zone. I had to run out of my house to try and stop a grown man setting them off in open space right by our front doors. In response he went to throw a half lit one at me and then seemed to think better of it. I am so sad at how bad the situation has got here and how selfish people are. Fireworks are bad for the environment and for pets and wildlife, as well as just being unnecessary noise for people too. I have sent an email today to Helen Hayes, which I have done previously on this issue. Would advise anyone to write to your MP to do the same, and to ask them to engage with the debates scheduled for 19 Jan.
    • And they started long before midnight!
    • First mate - I wondered if I was imagining things at 4.45 this morning . Apparently not .
    • The Dutch are addicted to New Year fireworks and spent €130million this year on them. However,  sales to individuals will be banned as from this year and celebrations will be organised by local and city councils. I have Dutch friends and for them, this can’t come soon enough. However, at least there it’s concentrated  on one night. Here, it’s never ending, any excuse to make a noise is seized upon with gusto. In addition to the annual celebrations, add birthdays, weddings, engagements, divorces, christenings, BBQs, etc etc. I dare say you can funerals to that list as well. Yesterday it started mid-afternoon and just carried on until the early hours. In the past, I’ve been woken up at 4am. Anyyone who doesn’t like it can go hang and you can ignore completely the  effects on people’s animals and wildlife. Don’t hold your breath about anything being done here, however.
