Liverpool have actually gained the most points (8 I think) this season by scoring in stoppage time, at this stage of the season it's a real psychological blow to the teams around, be it top or bottom, part of the joy of last weeks late late winner for Utd was that I knew fans of Liverpool and Chelsea up and down the country were hands on head keeling off their chairs - I agree it's not good for the old ticker though...

Were you the solitary Blade watching the game in the CPT yesterday Simon?

20 years since the Hillsboro disaster so I hope Liverpool give Blackburn a real good tonking today at Anfield and Spurs give the Hammers a real hammering at White Hart Lane. Come on you Spurs!!!!

I remember I aws in the Southbank at West Ham that day (we were playing Southampton)...to be honest everyone just presumed it was a bit of normal crowd trouble, we didn't really get the full horror until afrwards. Awful. I think that finally made everyone realise that holiganism was pathetic - not becuase there was any hooligansm that day, there wasn't, but it was the reason that the fences were there. RIP etc

No I watched it at home. The only time I have watched us in a bar was the FA cup replay against Hull City, which (he said smugly) I watched in the Playwright Sporting Bar in Miami Beach, the day after watching Real Madrid v Liverpool there: the bar does a great Irish breakfast, and even imports HP Sauce!. It is easy to say with hindsight that winning at Reading was always on the cards, but I was afraid we might draw or lose. And Reading were so good in the first half of the season too. Another Blade in ED eh?! Blimey...

Yes, if we go up the West Ham games will be....interesting. There's a (thankfully small) section of the Blades support who will always think of WHU as cheats, just as some WHU supporters will be always be similarly scathing about us. It's the sort of grudge that can survive 20 years or more I think!

Steve Gerrard is quoted in today's Guardian and is very eloquent on the subject of Hillsborough. I do wonder how much this has contributed to his staying at Liverpool? Brass Neck award goes to "The Sun" which, if its website is anything to go, says all the expected things about the disaster but somehow omits to mention its own disgusting role in the aftermath.

As I've said I've long had a soft spot for the blades, and that has been tested somewhat. I of course have no issue with the fans whatsoever and never will, and should you ever make it to a bar to watch that game I'll be delighted to buy you a pint, or even an 'english' breakfast. White pudding?!!?!? Sacrilege!!
Daniel Agger and Mascherano will make a big difference in that 2nd leg. Still very much Chelsea's ball game but as we know goals change games and without John Terry nerves might kick in even at 0-1 or 1-1. I reckon best chance for Liverpool is 4-4-2 formation with Gerrard on right flank.

pretty tight game, and Di Michele really should have put that one away.

Mind you, you're welcome to the European spot, we're not ready, squad too small and too injury ridden for Europe. Plus Europe seems to precede at the very least flirtation with relegation with us; maybe next season.

Agreed, top goal.

    • I was lucky that I received a student grant from 1990-1995 first 3 years for degree and 2 years post graduate bursary. Both were based on my income and I did not have to pay back. Eldest daughter got student loan and after 20 years managed to pay it off, Youngest daughter still paying hers 18 years later. Granddaughter - still paying after 6 years. Grandson decided against FE and secured an apprentenship. I am glad that I am an old codger and not young anymore !

    • It is not only Southwark - our grandson, partner and 7 year old had a one bed council flat for years in Harlow Essex and all the properties offered were in poor condition. They eventually took a property as if they refused another one they would drop to the bottom of the Housing List. It was damp and in need of a level of renovation. Having lived in these conditions for a while they were offered better council accommodation recently, but further away from child's school. They had to pay 2 lots of rent for a few weeks as council had to undertake work in the new premises before they could move in,
    • Just had an interior decorating job done by Andy. The final outcome looks lovely and he did some remedial work at the same time to fill in gaps in the ceiling (due to previous electrical work) and to remediate any similar areas to ensure a polished overall look. Would highly recommend him for any similar job, he quoted a very reasonable price for the job as well. Thanks Andy!
