My brother a Liverpool fan sent me this (it does not reflect my personal allegiences)

Around the Tiber strange noises were heard, the ominous sound of a red liverbird.

Those on the ground stood still and listened, as under its wings 5 trophies glistened.

Said the bird "a friend of mine twice conquered Rome, and ever since then it's been my 2nd home.

The 1st time he came he arrived by tank, do you think I'd surrender it to some f##kin manc?

Looks like the devils have been left in the lurch and guess what folks - I'm still on my perch!!"

Don't take much to amuse you then, mind you've got to make up for the tears you cried last night when your team failed to show up.

Love that post ratty, am having a look at wikipedia as we speak.

If the rest of you can stop with the endless circular argument for five effing minutes and accept that man u deserved the domestic title, barca deserved the European one and atila doesn't like Stoke, I get it already ok?

You must have had a right laugh when we won the title in your back yard then, and when we robbed you of the FA cup in 2005 with Paddys last kick of the game even though you played us off the park. I laughed my bollocks off, especially when I asw the look on the faces of your fans behind the goal. Priceless. Still laughing??
Yup. Still thinking about nayim from the half way line and Giggs running through your defence after getting a handy pass from "Paddy" to help us win the treble and thumping you lot 6-1 a few seasons back and winning the league in our game against you this season. Oh, and there's the fact you haven't won a European Cup and that you haven't won a single trophy since 2005. I am chuckling, yes.

So you get it, so what. I didn't involve you in my response so why involve yourself?

I thought you were mocking others yesterday for taking glory in United's failure last night?

What is going on at Pompey, they seem to be pimped around the world, now there is talk of a Dr Al Fahim, of Man City fame, taking over from the Russian. I'm not sure this makes Pompey a proper football club... and you know what the way West Ham chucked their money at likes of Lucas Neill also disqualifies them. As for Wigan handing out ?1 tickets to fill seats that tells you everything you need to know about that club's support. No way are Stoke a proper club.. they don't even play football! ;-)

Bit worrying what is going on at Pompey, but not as worrying as going into Admin which is what would have happened had this multi billionaire not decided he wanted a new toy.

As for the rest - it was all tongue in bum cheek of course! :)

Sorry, which of the 73 posts regarding stoke being sh!t wasn't aimed at me? I'm just suggesting your point has been well and truly made.

So a whole new season to look forward to, any early predictions? Can O'Neill get absquad together that can challenge the big four. What do people think about the proposals limiting squad sizes, will this foster competition or ultimately benefit the big clubs further?

Was thinking the same. The "he shoots he scores" jogged my memory.

Love that poem Mick Mack. Was sent it last night, but it was signed as though written by Paisley.

FFA this used to be the one Internet sanctuary from the endless pathetic football bickering, where there was intelligent discussion and insight. As far as I can see we've had about a hundred pages dominated by tedious metaphorical penis comparisons (no offence ms field).

What say we lay the school playground stuff to rest, at least until next season?

I am quite happy to let it lie if people are prepared to have proper discussions. Matt makes some very eloquent and insightful points at times and I enjoy his take on the game but does every post have to contain a jibe about United? Anna, well after her additions to threads on sports bras and those high heeled shoes I can forgive her anything and I guess I just have to ignore AG as I am sure he won't be able to help himself.

Right, where's Tevez going? Will Ronaldo stay? Who is going to be the next Chelsea manager? What does Rafa have to change to go that one last little extra step to win the league?

If you need to ask why a person supports a team you are a bigger numpty than I thought. If you are a supporter of team, whatever that team that may be, you wouldn't need to ask such a lame arse question.

Yes I think it's a good idea to limit squad sizes, it may stop some clubs from building up unnecessary giant squads. It seemed a few years ago that Chelsea were buying up players like SWP and Sidwell just to stop them going to competitors. I'd like to see a squad size of 25, with 5 of those being under 18 and who'd served an apprenticeship at that same club and who qualify for Club's home nation.

    • It’s illegal to let off fireworks in a public place, there were kids in Peckham Rye Park wearing hoods & masks letting off fireworks around 5pm yesterday & generally acting menacing..  loads of people walking dogs at the time along with families & kids using the park!  I reported to the police but as usual nobody turned up! Suggest anyone who is fed up with this antisocial behaviour make sure it’s reported, the more reports the better, hopefully then something will be done.   At the moment they just know they can get away with it!
    • This is a useful source of info regarding this issue https://www.hacaneast.org.uk/home/
    • As I age, I understand a lot more about community spirit and people’s fear in the current climate of going to the assistance of a person in need. Yes, this might in part be aged related but is also driven by not wishing or wanting to help but a combination of self preservation and yes, fear of what the attacker might do or even worse get stabbed or physically assaulted.  Whilst it would be great to have more police presence to reassure community and hopefully act as a deterrent to people whose aim is to rob people or home and attack people, due to the cutbacks and not sure about my next comment but lack of police officers in general and reduce number of recruits, let’s face it - we as a community should step up to protect our community and assist police. Years ago, I attended one of these evening meeting with the local police officers - turn out was less than a dozen local residents. Yes, was in the evening when a lot of families were dealing with homework, feeding, after school activities and obviously there are housebound people and older members of the community who understandably would not wish to come out. I believe that to address this, the church at the top of Barry Road near the library have over the last couple of years advertised  and organised day time meeting with two local police officers responsible for the area to address issues concerning the local community. What  happened in daylight might as mentioned above been in part caused by an individual with possible mental health problems - the point is we should all feel safe on our streets in London and without doubt if you read the news, seems like stabbing, assault is now just the norm - a reflection of modern day society in any large town in the UK. If memory serves me correctly, not related to assault but was not someone stabbed a couple of years ago near the junction with the organic shop? And I believe mentioned recently someone died in the local community from an assault. Would be good to have an update from the police or someone known to the individual attacked.  I was in East Dulwich just last week talking to a friend in Barry Road and was surprised to see two bobbies walking along the road in broad daylight so now having heard about the assault can only assume police presence has been increased.
    • Disagree. Where are the police when you need them? People want a police presence, they want to feel reassured by seeing them do what the word suggests, policing, so go catch some bad guys, arrest, charge and get the CPS to prosecute with the evidence to enable this to happen. Stabbing and shootings are so common place they no longer even get reported in the public domain. How many crimes don't get solved? Rather case closed and forgotten. The number of low to high level crimes which remain unsolved is staggering.  The criminal fraternity know this, they know they won't get caught so they just carry on.  Biggest crimes which affect most people, probably are phone and car theft, both are prolific and what do the police do, diddly squat. zilch, nothing, provide a crime reference number and the case is closed. Not good enough, not by a country mile.   Met Engage? I don't think so.
