An impressive performance against a poor Croatian team. But in times gone by, England have not always taken their chances in similar circumstances. Weak points were Heskey's finishing (harsh to point to an individual but if you only have 4/5 forwards in a squad, you need them to score) and an odd 10 minutes second half spell where concentration lapsed. Think Capello pragmatic enough and won't let team get carried away and will keep their feet on the ground. He can get away with making a couple of changes against Ukraine (how long before Croatia mention fielding weakened teams) and has a free game against Belarus to give a better opportunity to fringe players.

Bok of the net! (Daily Mirror), 3 Lions in Africa (Daily Mirror), Get de beers in (The Sun), Ooh-aah Africa! (The Sun), We can win it (Daily Express), Watch out world (Daily Star), World class (Daily Mail) and Job done (The Independent) are some of the newspaper headlines after Fabio Capello's England side secured World Cup qualification on Wednesday night.

Wonder how long it will be before Capello and his squad are likened to various vegtables and donkeys?

Couldn't disagree more. England beat everything put in front of them, it's not Capello's fault that Croatia didn't turn up (they are ranked 9th, Ukraine 25th, so not exactly a "poor" group) We have qualified without play offs, last chance draws against the Italians or a million Beckham freekick attempts. Added to that we are Europes top scoring side and unbeaten under Fabio Capello in all competative matches, which is were it counts.

In the friendly against Spain there was no Gerrard, Rooney, Ferdinand (ok he didn't play last night), Defoe. Abonglahor played up front and the starting midfield was Downing, Carrick, SWP and Barry. Spain were 100% inc. Senna, Iniesta,Torres, Villa etc. Oh and Jagielka played! So I see no real relevance in our worst result.

However I do agree we are far from perfect, this is the England team after all but it's a much better starting point for a final than we've had for a very long time.

Oh Teddy, Teddy, you may have won the treble but you're still a c**t.

And who was the goalkeeping colossus for spuds at that time? Was the it the mighty Ian Walker or some other giant of the footballing world?

It was Ratty. But then he won the lot. My particular favourite was seeing him interviewed wearing his European Cup winners medal. The interview ended and he looked into camera, picked up the medal from his chest, kissed it and said "This one's for the Gooners." :)) Couldn't have happened to a nicer chap if you ask me.

What literally? ...that must have been a bit embarrassing on the way home.

I remember Teddy Sheringham rousing the West Ham fans behind the goal at Cardiff (as if he was a one club man) in anticipation of winning FA Cup moments before Steven Gerrard equalised :))

Have to say his ashen face last night each time Macca made his views known without prompting from Steve Rider was funny.

Good player but ... was he the one that won the free kick at OT for Beckham in the Greece 2-2 ?

    • Oh give it a break.  We have an MP who makes racist comments, yet our media (and what seems like this Forum) that generally hate Labour (and loved Johnson) are just out looking for the dirt. It's a move on, nothing to see here.  Particularly if she used a letting agency.

    • I don't think a single specific URL is easily doable.  When you enter a search the system presents the result without any of one's search parameters added to the URL.  So I suggest you go to https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/search.do?action=advanced where you just need to enter the address -- use SE22 8EW -- and the  Date Received start date.  I used 1/1/2025.  The three Tesco applications, all minor things, were all made in May.  The Simple search that I'd done previously had no time limit, and didn't include anything else that might have been from Tesco in the last two years. Incidentally, when I searched on the address 29-35 Lordship Lane it did not pick up the Tesco applications, which were held as 29 - 35 Lordship Lane Grrr!
