Jeremy
I recently bought a POD thingy actually... it's great fun for playing around with, but it's only a substitute for a proper amp if you're deaf. Keef
I'm not keen on the overdrive / distortion sounds, but they are a lot easier to take to gigs than 5 seperate pedals all with their own power supplies, and it's fun messing around with some of the unusual sounds like "flute synth".That said, I long to be back in a band where I can just use my amp footswitch and a wah wah! Having said that a JCM 800 full blast makes people from the council come to your home with one of those decibel meters thingamejigs and a plod with a warrant. Mikecg
I've just bought myself a boss GT10 which sounds pretty cool through my amp, Ive got a Laney LC50MK11, its easy to drive and transport. microbite
I am a midnight PS2, xbox 360 and Wii freak...when I can't sleep, which is often..I love sci-fi and ghosty things, especially like the current "being human" series on now..quite funnyI recently purchased a superman t-shirt and wear it under my work clothes....(not every day of course)I love the "why can't flys fart" etc. kind of silly books in WHSmiths..buy them for the kids, but actually an excuse for me to read them....Love the whole Harry Potter, Lords of the Rings, Never ending story, type films, Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5247-geeks-paradise/page/2/#findComment-167616 Share on other sites
Keef
This is my amphttp://www.harmony-central.com/Events/MusikMesse98/Marshall/TSL100.jpgBut I admit to using one of thesehttp://www.haworthguitars.com.au/images/catalog/product.BOSS-GT6.large.jpg:-$Infact, whilst we're on the subject, I have been looking for a more mobile amp for smaller gigs / gigs where I cant transport mine. Any recommendations for Marshall combo valve amps? Or non Marshal, but with plenty of dirt behind it... Mikecg
TSL 100, nice amp keef,What sort of money are you looking to spend and what output. 1x12 or the more 3 adams apple inducing 2x12? Keef
Probably 1x12, ideally would be able to take it on a train if required. As for money, as little as possible, have already spent lots on guitars and amps, and can't really justify a huge outlay at the moment, but my amp (well the cab) is a total pain to get around! Mikecg
Laney make some good amps at reasonable prices, my lc 50mk2 was ?350, ive seen the marshall jcm900 100 watt 1x12 used for ?300 on evilbay. there are lots of the chineese ?300 jobs about these days, but they have a problem with tone in that country, I think they like the harsh middle tone, you know the one that makes you cringe. Jeremy
One of my amps is a Laney... one of the all-valve heads. GL50, I think? The distortion is great, but frankly the top-end is too harsh for more refined use.You could consider a 1x12 cab to connect to the head (I have a little Mesa 1x12 for home use). Or something like a Marshall valvestate (not the current one which all the stupid built in effects, the old one... it was the standard issue 1x12 combo in the 90s).I bought the pod because I can carry it on the train, and take to rehearsal rooms (i.e. cheap rehearsal rooms with rubbish gear which is always broken) to plug into whatever is available. Also good for knocking up quick demos and practising with headphones. It's hardly a serious bit of kit, though. Strawbs
I have a big amp at my place too (cant remember what it is called) with lots of speakers to go with it.. Due to the size of the current flat the amp is used as a table to put the wireless router and phone on, two of the speakers are used to put drinks on on either side of the sofa and the rest are in the cupboard! Jeremy
I would stop short of a shooting, but it does seem an awful shame... to leave the tools of rock in the cupboard, unwanted... collecting dust... or being (ab)used as makeshift coffee tables.
