I also remember the street from the early 90s when the Bishop Brewery was still up at Borough and bermondsey antiques market was very popular because a bye-law meant that if you 'accidentally' bought stolen goods there they were yours for keeps - not sure if that's still the case but it made the place a right den of duckers and divers on a Friday morning.
I'm writing a piece "In search of the Raider" in which I attempt to track down the famous local blogger and his half life chum at a Hamlets game purely from his silhouette Twitter pic. All we know is that he's hairy, likes job centres and garden centres...and rollies.

Thanks for the feedback, and interesting piece, Steveo, thanks for posting.

As for tracking me down... Well, I'll be in Margate on Saturday, drinking ale in the Lifeboat ahead of the Margate v Dulwich Hamlet game. Come and say hello!

Sounds like your perfect day: Ale in suitable alehouse > pink and blues

Unfortunately I'll be on baby cover but the Margate trip sounds great. I've always wanted to go there after reading cockney w@nker in Viz when i was a kid.Think it was his destination of choice?

    • That explanation sounds highly unlikely!  Surely the "days of the week" plates must be a standard size. I know Royal Mail often appears incompetent, but it  couldn't be that stupid, surely. Was it 1 April?!
    • Looking for a short length of electric (twin & earth)  lighting cable. Most likely there could be some in a skip near you??
    • Southwark's recycling guidance says to put shredded paper in the blue bin in a paper envelope or "small box". I've got far too much of it for that  (confidential stuff going back decades) - thanks to the EDF member who kindly gave me a shredder! It would be a "massive box". I have barely started  the shredding, and I've already got an extremely large bagful.   I've read online that you can put it into  large clear plastic bags in the bin for paper,  provided you  clearly label it "shredded paper" and it is obvious what it is. Does anybody know if Southwark would accept it like that? Alternatively, can anyone make use of it for animal bedding or packaging material or adding to  compost?
    • I'm happy to report that some foxgloves are now looking great in my garden. The bees are loving them. Also managed to grow some corn poppies from seed. I've left some decaying logs in the corner so maybe there are some stag beetles there.
