matthew123
I'd always thought you only get Mice on the ground floor of a property. Few weeks ago in my first floor bedroom I started hearing a Mouse scratching behind the skirting board and running underneath the floorboards. Now my first floor is sealed, hence why the Mouse was scratching as it could not escape. Now I think the problem is because the first flat next door is infested with mice* - and somehow one or two have come through an air vent of some sort from next door's first floor into my first floor probably where the joists on both sides meet the party walls.* The reason I think next door's first floor is infested with Mice is behind the neighbour beneath them has told me he hears dozens of mice running around in his ceiling at night (i.e. under the first floor floorboards of the flat above)Hope that all makes sense! So is this possible? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5378-is-it-possible-for-mice-to-infest-a-first-floor-flat/ Share on other sites

matthew123
Unfortunately the only exit point for the Mice or Mouse appears to be the same hidden air vent from which they entered from next door. I have a mouse trap box downstairs with poison and that's not be touched since I caught a few of the little b'stards some months ago.I spoke with the Owner who owns next door but as he doesn't live there he has so far refused to recognise there is a problem, hence the question of whether it was possible for Mice to breed in a first floor property. With electrical wiring be the only thing to eat on my first floor, I may soon be forced to yelp help to Southwark Pest Control to sort it out whether Landlord likes it or not. mockney piers
I found one in the bath of a first floor flat in old flat on Underhill. 4 am monday morning and had to go to city Airport for my commute to Amsterdam. Tried to catch him and he shot up the sleeve of my dressing and ran right on to my back. I danced around the room like I was having a fit and he finally shoots out my other sleeve back into the bath.I went for a French shower that morning, and left it for brother to deal with.Solution? sell the flat. dulwichmum
Mockney dear, what is a French shower? Don't tell me that they engage in minimalist personal hygiene. I already bear a grudge against that entire nation because of their vulgar and inadequate toilet facilities. mockney piers
French shower is to bathe yourself in deodorant rather than actually wash.Weirdly during times of imperial rivalry between us and the dutch we picked on them more than the french for our derogatory terms, hence dutch courage etc. I'm guessing this is a more modern term. louisiana
matthew, mice can get anywhere. They scampered around the 3rd floor of Sapient (design agency, former bank building in the City) at all hours. They were like the elephant in the room. You'd be in the middle of a meeting in the middle of the afternoon, and hey presto: mice! They just love old buildings too.The men from the council have told me that the best thing for mice is to stop up every possible hole (anything larger than a pencil!) with wire wool. It's cheap, from the DIY or hardware shop. And effective: mice don't get through it.
