'wanted:plumber' AGAIN! isn't it annoying???!

Recommended Posts

Just opened the forum's page and saw yet another 'plumber wanted' post. Oh dear... 'Looking for a plumber, builder, gardner etc' - why do these posts keep appearing every single day??? why not do a quick search on the forum and get your answer straight away, rather than adding yet another 'looking for a plumber' post??? sometimes you don't even need to do a seacrh as there are similar posts one after another on the same page. and then you get the same lists of names and phone numbers... Anyone else finds it, er, annoying?

Yes, I do. You get the impression that very few ever use the search function. They're either too lazy, don't know about it or assume that if there's no relevant post on the first page its out-of-date.

(Edited to say sorry admin - this is kind of not relevant to this section and should be in the lounge).

Recently I was one of those people who put up a thread asking for a plumber.. I also did perform the search button but as I was going through the list of plumbers who were unavailable to come out to me as an emergency I posted for in case anyone knew of any others..

Maybe if the posts irritate you so much just dont open them, go to another section of the forum there are loads!

Listen not everyone is going to be immediately familiar with how an internet forum works, how this one works specifically, how many people have been looking for plumber in the last 5 days or even what a ?search function? is. Just deal with it. It does no harm.

Unless you feel that people should have to pass a test on forum etiquette before registering which kinda defeats the object of a community service open to everyone.

hi Strawbs, I don't open these posts every time, why would I (unless I wanted a plumber) - there is the same lists of names and contact numbers again and again... hi bagbadwolf, I have NOTHING against people enquireing about plumbers (and I am not a plumber, and Ive used the forum's plumber recommendations before) but what annoys me is enquireing about plumbers so many times every day. I undersdatn some users might not know about the search engine, fair enough, but many times you don't even have to do a search as there are the same 'looking for a plumber posts' on one page.

anyway I posted it yesterday after seeing three plumber posts on one page and after a broken night, so maybe it wasn't the best idea for a rant. but it still annoys me ;-)

I'm leaning more towards you millsa

I reckon if someone is savvy enough to come across the forum, register, use the email client to confirm registration etc then they are savvy enough to do a quick search out of politeness.

As strawbs points out it isn't always possible (or desirable) but the sheer volume in the wanted section suggets people aren't even trying. And that's a teeny bit rude in my book

Plus it cripples the wanted section in it's current form, with posts disappearing before anyone can read them

Eldest daughter got student loan and after 20 years managed to pay it off, Youngest daughter still paying hers 18 years later. Granddaughter - still paying after 6 years. Grandson decided against FE and secured an apprentenship. I am glad that I am an old codger and not young anymore !

    • It is not only Southwark - our grandson, partner and 7 year old had a one bed council flat for years in Harlow Essex and all the properties offered were in poor condition. They eventually took a property as if they refused another one they would drop to the bottom of the Housing List. It was damp and in need of a level of renovation. Having lived in these conditions for a while they were offered better council accommodation recently, but further away from child's school. They had to pay 2 lots of rent for a few weeks as council had to undertake work in the new premises before they could move in,
