As a general reflection on children at home, I left Ireland post graduation for London aged 21 with nothing other than my first months rent and a low paying civil service job to look forward to.

I think more young people should take the plunge and want to fend for themselves.

For me that independence was something o craved.

House prices were completely irrelevant to me at the time of making the decision and this was 1989 when rents etc were at an all time high. I just wanted to cope on my own.

I'd of said learn lesson,no replacement money don't grow on trees.

Save up buy own then when you drop it in.loo(dangerous choice use near water)then they feel pain of replacing the item.

Understand kind mum helping out, done twice certainly no way hoza

just remember that some people think because it's the internet and not "real life" that they can just say exactly what they want without applying the tact and manners that they would if talking face to face.

Either that or they're just exceptionally rude people, OR they lack the capacity to see how their. comments will affect others.

@Otta,

If sjw writes she doesn't appreciate peoples comments and opinions she shouldn't spend her free time sitting and writing negative comments on other people walls...

She sure did't leave me with a worm positive feeling when reading her comment on my post.. My though when reading it where more like "What is her problem" I think anybody would feel that way.

I didn't ask for an opinion around the topic fur.. i was selling it. And "if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all" Otherwise you are just a part of the internet bulling and can't be offended when other people have a negative opinion. That is all... Over and out.

You miss the point. I understand that you were just selling something, and that you weren't really looking for comments on fur, and such comments may have annoyed you and possibly made people think twice about buying the item.

Okay I get that.

But the fact remains that sjw's comment was not directed at you as a person. Comments on here have been directly aimed at her as a person and how she chooses to parent, which frankly is no one's bloody business.

You really should be able to see the difference.

Roger that? Over and out.

@OTTA The point is if you choose to play nice or not (never mind the scale)

People in general just have to keep good manners on the internet, I'm not saying what the people are saying is right, i'm saying and i quote again that if you don't play nice how can you expect others to do the same.

My previous message speaks for it self.

It's not rocket science OTTA but comment sens and good manners to fellow people on the forum.

This worked for my daughter when she did the same thing with her iPhone (paid for herself, receipt available on request): turn it fully off immediately, not just the one button off but the hold it down till it fully turns off. This stops it making any electrical connections itself. Then immerse it in a bowl of rice and leave it somewhere warm but not hot, so an airing cupboard rather than a radiator. Leave it for as long as you can but at least 24 hours. Hers was as good as new but I think it's the turning it off quickly that is key. It's something they only do the once!

I find "immediately" is such a subjective word - would it cover the small time lapse from the OP on 20 February until now?

No, no I didn't (miss your point). Because she wrote "poor fox" on one of your threads you felt that she was being "very opinionated", not nice, and had "ruined" your thread. and so what goes around comes around.

In your opinion writing "poor fox" means she deserves to have her personal life judged.

You're right, it's not rocket science and I get it.

I personally just find the two things completely incomparable.

But clearly we're not going to agree about it.

The original Gordon Bennett has some claim on the most expensive wee ever. He was the heir to the New York Herald fortune and had become engaged to even-richer socialite Caroline May. On New Year's Day he went blind drunk to her parents' house, where he pissed into the drawing-room fireplace.

Needless to say the wedding was off. He was escorted from the premises, horsewhipped by Caroline's brother and ostracised by Manhattan society. He went into self-imposed exile in France where he started the European version of the newspaper ? which became the Herald Tribune.

So a very expensive piss turned out to be not so bad in the end.

    • This week's edition of The Briefing Room I found really useful and impressively informative on the training aspect.  David Aaronovitch has come a long way since his University Challenge day. 😉  It's available to hear online or download as mp3. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002n7wv In a few days time resident doctors -who used to be known as junior doctors - were meant to be going on strike. This would be the 14th strike by the doctors’ union since March 2023. The ostensible reason was pay but now the dispute may be over without more increases to salary levels. The Government has instead made an offer to do something about the other big issue for early career doctors - working conditions and specialist training places. David Aaronovitch and guests discuss what's going on and ask what the problem is with the way we in Britain train our doctors? Guests: Hugh Pym, BBC Health Editor Sir Andrew Goddard, Consultant Gastroenterologist Professor Martin McKee, Professor of European Public Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Mark Dayan, Policy Analyst, Nuffield Trust. Presenter: David Aaronovitch Producers: Caroline Bayley, Kirsteen Knight, Cordelia Hemming Production Co-ordinator: Maria Ogundele Sound Engineers: Michael Regaard, Gareth Jones Editor: Richard Vadon
