markeddie, I do believe Rough Trade's music club involves a straightforward subscription to get the latest albums - i.e. your basic buying records transaction, no...?

however I'm more concerned by *bob*'s picking up rough trade down Brick Lane way, while also servicing Megan - who is this Megan and how does she feel about his extracurricular activities?

It is a bit chippy.

But on the grounds of butting heads with someone who doesn't understand the difference between a 'subscription for music - because you want to buy music' as opposed to 'asking for help with the shop rent - for reasons unclear'.. and on account of TDM being nice people, I'll butt-out.

As for Megan.. well, I'm fully paid-up.

So what happens to the money the "dreamers" paid for, in aid to keep the shop on LL?

Is this a travelling scam like the SF credit card machines?

PS I have my flame proof coat on, so any butthurt newcomers readying their oh so witty paragraphs of shite can kiss my robo-chubby.

Ha ha.. the middle age posse has come out fighting now they've put the kids to bed and finished watching Jonathan Ross. Matty, i tip my hat to you sir, your email had me in fits of laughter and amusement, words like robo-chubby and butthurt. Just too funny and may i add, darn creative! You have the vocab of primary school teen. Watch a lot of cartoons do we?

And Mike your contribution was nothing short of brilliant, really concise and you put your point forward well. Would really love to have you onside for a debate.

Im not an employee of the place in question, i did buy a few CD's. It simply boils down to the fact that a place like that obviously got the backs up of the middle class, 40 something male east dulwicher who obviously has a chip on their shoulder about being bloody average and may i add a touch uncreative.

Must be a right old laugh hanging around with you guys.

Brendan,

As I understand it, it's an unprofitable shop that can't afford the rent, which asks for donations so it can keep the unprofitable shop going - which also doubles as an after-hours hangout for a handful of people who have the time/opportunity to do so, and as a venue - only one which doesn't really have the facilities or size to be practical.

They also enthusiatically promote gigs, live music, new acts etc, which is cool and to be encouraged. But ultimately the 'shop' element is non-starter; a drain on resources and (clearly) just not viable.

The new setup in HH sounds like a much better prospect - lose the millstone and concentrate on what's working well.

That's how I see it anyway.

I have to say I agree with *bob*. I love the idea behind the DM, but don't really think the shop was ever going to work (damn shame), and I think the idea of running music nights out of the Half Moon is great, and could be a success. It's a shame someone complimented your first post Markeddie, it was very funny and made me laugh, but it seemed to fill you with the confidence to be a bit of an insulting tool. Oh, and I'm not middle aged, and have spent lots of time in the DM.

"Your email" Hah! If you plan on a successful retort, at least familiarise yourself with the correct terminology first.

I did, actually offer to play a set of contemporary music from a particular East Asian country at TDM but I guess they either preferred someone playing stuff they sold (fair enough) or that people in general prefer to listen to something in their own language (also fair enough. From your total lack of understanding of 'net slang I assume you to be a divorced male in his 50s who still rates Hawkwind as being the best thing since sliced bread..

I'll miss TDM, its a damn shame its going, won't miss you though when you're kicked out of here >:D<

    • In case anyone is renovating or stripping out an old kitchen, I am looking for a base kitchen unit or carcass to house an oven for a temporary set up kitchen.   Also looking for a run of worktop at least 180 cm long if anyone is disposing of something like this, I would be happy to collect.   thanks   Mila
    • Big recommendation for Stephen Viccary who has created a magnificent bathroom for us. Quality of work is absolutely top notch. We couldn't be happier - see pics.  Stephen is considerate and tidy meaning working from home during the work was fine (some noise - obviously, it is a demo and installation after all. He does not work on multiple jobs, does a full days work and does ALL the work himself - Tiling, plumbing, lighting (including lighting on a motion sensor under the vanity and in the shower niche - for night time visits 😉), he even changed the door architraves, sorted the badly cracked ceiling and did all the paint work. A full end to end service. Stephen's number - 07941 266 145
    • Highly recommend Dulwich Eco Gardening.  When he came to quote Saied said he’d give our garden back so we could decide what we do next.  Under two weeks of hard work from Saied and Mo and we have the garden back and can see paving I’d forgotten about. Not only did Saied remove our very overgrown greenery. Nature had taken over. He also took back to our fence line overgrown ivy, apple and pear trees and and dealt with a neighbours bamboo that had invaded our garden.  We are now going to get quotes for what we do next so those quoting will be able to see the space.  Saied has suggested someone to quote and will be coming back when he does in case he has any questions or they can work together.  I thought Saied would be a good choice and he was. Quotes from others didn’t leave me with confidence for the end result. That was never a concern with Saied.
