charliecharlie
Think I've just had my best steak and chips ever!Went to the Magnolia last night (and no, I do not have shares in the place, nor am I the chef!) and had the most delicious tasty plate of Frenchy-ness and was instantly transported into holiday mode.I asked for medium rare and it was!, proper home made b?arnaise sauce with fresh tarragon. Nice pile of chips and a big green salad with basil and parsley plus a perfect dressing. Bloody brilliant(tu)What is your "best I've ever had"? Does not have to be food....xxcc Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5678-whats-the-best-youve-ever-had/ Share on other sites

Mick Mac
Best steak for me is easy - Porterhouse steak, Wolfgangs restaurant New York, best by a long way - served with the bone. About an inch deep, charred a little on the outside and rare on the inside.Don't know what porterhouse steak is referred to here - may be t bone? Second to that is most steak in France, cooked rare, always seems to be good, but I'll always remember the New York one as being the best. Doubt very much I'll be able to relplicate the standard it was cooked to in NY though, but I'll give it a go. It recall it was a huge steak and only available for 2 people sharing! Jeremy
If we're talking porterhouse steak, it has to be Peter Luger's, Brooklyn (I believe Wolfgangs is one of several newer restaurants opened by former Peter Luger employees).A porterhouse (US defintion) is very similar to a UK T-bone... with maybe a slighty higher ratio of fillet to strip-loin. candj
Morton's in Chicago, definitely the best porterhouse, not that I would eat something so vulgar. Eliza.D
Absolutely has to be the enormous butterflied langoustine I ate in a restaurant in Havana. It was grilled with just a hint of seasoning. It is without a shadow of doubt the best thing I've put in my mouth. mockney piers
Lomo steak in a cute little eatery just off the pleasant main square in Mendoza, Argentina. Followed by a paseo round said square in the crisp, yet mild winter air there.Best beef in the world. Wolfgangs is in Donald Trumps top 5 restaurants in NY so not too shabby, but yes Peter Luger has the long standing reputation.Sean - these US versions were huge - and only on the menu for 2 or 3 people sharing. We asked what was the best steak they had and they said it had to be the porterhouse, but don't seem to see it on the restaurant menus here. Until the beef-on-the-bone ban was introduced off the back of the BSE scare. Not really seen it since.
