Torben Pieknik
I got the impression Despatches were trying to balance the books after the hatchet job they did on Ken. It was all rehashes of press releases put out by the Labour, Lib Dem and Green parties on the London Assembly. Hardly indepth political journalism. Ted Max
As for the Wire. I was on my sofa at 11:20 like the good, easily bidden sheep I am and I have to thank you lot for the tip.Spark out by 11:35. Best night's sleep I've had in ages. Moos
I meant two wrongs making a right, i.e. media bias against Ken vs. media bias against Boris - but then you went and edited your post, you swine you. *Bob*
Despatches has been shite for some time now. When I switch on and inadvertently catch something like that I honestly can't guess which channel its on without looking - which is bad news. citizenED
Stop Press: apparently the Beeb are pulling The Wire from it's schedule after just one week following piss-poor ratings. Ladygooner
I tried watching the Wire for about 15 mins of the first episode but either I am going deaf or they are just not speaking clearly? Couldn't understand half of the dialogue so have given up! RosieH
Ladygooner, whenever I watch the Wire I have to turn the sound right up - there have been a couple of scenes that I understood not one word of, even on thrice repeating - but believe me it gets really good, it does, it gets sooooo good. Give it one more try - with the sound turned up REALLY LOUD Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5805-tv-reminder-monday-30th-march/page/2/#findComment-188076 Share on other sites
SeanMacGabhann
it's not just the volume - the vernacular requires concentration and exposure. It'll take more than one go LadyG - but it will be worth it! Quite so - but having it loud helps you at least work out what they're saying, even if you have no clue what it means. Ahhhhhh, the Wire... SeanMacGabhann
From season one, probably already shown on BBCok, the language is slang-heavy, but this scene where some drug-dealers discussing their problems, switches to an analogy with chess is just brilliant - times x 10 when you follow the different arcs of the 3 characters in subsequent episdodes Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5805-tv-reminder-monday-30th-march/page/2/#findComment-188502 Share on other sites
