The telly out here in Asia's appalling, so mostly we watch boxsets.

I've been on Amazon, refilling the coffers and snapped up The Wire, Peep Show, Silent Witness 1, Flight of the Conchords and Prime Suspect 7.

We're through the BBC's (rather limited) collection.

What else should we be getting our teeth into? Stuff from ITV / Ch.4 / Ch. 5 and Sky?

Carnival (US) - About two opposing forces (one good and one evil) set in the last great recession with stunning visuals, great characters and an intriguing plot... won't say any more but I sat and watched the whole of Season 1 in a weekend then went out and got season 2 (final) to do the same !!!

That Sing and Sign thing's a bit highbrow for me.

The Shield and Carnival both look groovy. Curb your Enthisasm's a brilliant idea. Dexter's intriguing... Does Oz have any good looking ladies in it? Not that I'm shallow of course.

Isn't Deadwood a Western with Lovejoy? Always had this downer on Westerns since beeing forced to watch them at the age of thirteen on Saturday afternoons by my best mate.

OZ barely as any women in it at all. I can only think of 2 off the top of my head - but it is set in a maximum security prison for men!

I'm from the same place as you re: westerns. But Deadwood changed that completely - you can practically smell the place and the way it deals with the formation of the federal US is very pertinent today (lots of libertarians complaining about government interference for a start)

And if you think Lovejoy is anything like his antique self, it will be a revelation!

Battlestar Galactica. S1-4 out on DVD. S5 just finished on Sky (but I haven't yet seen the final ep, so please no spoilers!). Dark, comic, epic, twisted sci-fi.

Just finished Generation Kill and thoroughly recommend it. More a Mini series really but still a good 5+ hours. Still waiting for Breaking Bad to land on DVD...heard great things about it. The Dad from Malcolm in The Middle plays an Industrial Pharmacist who is diagnosed with terminal cancer and sets about leaving his family a hefty legacy by creating and distributing Weapons grade Street drugs...a man with nothing to lose and all that. Sounds awfully hackneyed but apparently its rather good and one a few Emmys last year.

    • A town square would be nice. Perhaps we could pedestrianise North cross Road and create a square with the junction of Lordship Lane. Can't imagine there would be any objections / controversy.  This is probably true, but the issue is not so much the level of the rent, but the degree to which it is sustainable in the context of the local market. The Landlords locally do seem to have squeezed rents to the point where places can no longer survive in many cases.
    • https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-14774205/Urgent-warning-opioid-deaths-Met-Police-pills-heroin-nightclubs.html?ito=email_share_article-top   I'm sharing this article to help to spread the word about these new deadly synthetic opioids called Nitazenes which are finding their way onto the drug scene.  Two more young lives lost last weekend in young people at a South London club.    Most people I talk to have never heard of Nitazenes which are being used as contaminants in a number of other drugs including sleeping pills like valium and Xanax, oxycodone but have also been found in vapes and sedative antihistamines and cocaine.  So people buying sleeping tablets and other substances have no idea of the risk they are taking.  This is a relatively new trend and the number of deaths is on the increase.  Do discuss it with your teenagers and young adult children and anyone you know tempted to purchase sleeping tablets online.  It really is a much more dangerous and potentially lethal time to buy tablets online or on the street and hopefully knowledge of Nitazenes can help people protect themselves.  This stuff is in London and no doubt, is already in Dulwich so do spread the word.
    • The link is showing the real link to the East Dulwich Forum that Joe on here set up.  https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1DanoiLd48/?mibextid=wwXIfr East Dulwich Mums is my group and is not a spin off from this group. I have no connection to the other EDF Facebook group and nor do I promote any cleaning services. My group is very well run thank you and your information is incorrect.  No, that is the new Facebook group that the admin on here has set up.  Joe does need to turn the settings on that group to pre approval for all posts as there is a lot of posts on there that isn’t relevant.
