When I go to buy my train tickets, the machine is full of receipts that people haven't been bothered to pick up. This just seems to be an East Dulwich thing, I've not seen it happen anywhere else. How much effort it is to pick up your own rather than leave me to pick up 20+ or so of yours?

tickets left in machine - definitely not a Dulwich thing - I've come across it at any London station I've bought tickets from

Buses - the highway code advises you let buses out even if they don't have right of way. So why would you be a dick and not let them out?

This is the irrational things thread....we can't all be a virtuous a driver as you. ;-)

Ah yes, rule 223. After having a quick chat with a traffic cop friend of mine, this is not mandatory, purely advice.

My gripe is when you are alongside the bus and they then signal and pull out at the same time causing you to take avoiding action such as pulling out into oncoming traffic or braking.

I pull over to widen the gap for the truck coming the other way

The car behind pulls around me, to try and go through "the gap"

The car stops the truck getting through and causes a jam, then other cars pile in behind the lead car

All hell breaks loose and nobody's going nowhere

People in trains who, instead of sitting next to their friends, sit opposite them and then shout to each other across the carriage.

People in trains who put their feet up on the seat opposite. How would they like it they sat down on a seat and found a great dollop of crap on it from someone else's shoe?

No problem letting them out, and I do hundreds of times a week commuting for maybe 8-10 hours; just indicate and use your mirrors if you're pulling out into moving traffic like everyone else using the road.

TINY things: forum egos and cliques.

It never fails to amaze me how little motorists cooperate with each other in the area . This results in so many mexican standoffs when

A few seconds of waiting would have ensured a good traffic flow.

    • Labour's latest Rye Lane Ward newsletter is now saying that demolition in the square will start this summer and that the wider station upgrade is expected to be signed off this year - as explained above, sadly wrong on both counts. It describes the renovation of adjacent buildings on Blenheim Grove as "successful", despite having lain empty for a couple of years, longer than the actual renovation works, before saying "the Council is hopeful [it] will see its first new occupants move in to this year". Cue desperate attempt to get at least one in before end of financial year? As for the other topic, in "November 2023, faced with a huge increase in graffiti across the borough, Labour-run Southwark council took action". Nice turn of phrase eh? Rather, after community pressure regarding years of inaction by said Labour-run council, it's finally started to do a little bit, a little late. Surely there would be more chance of resolving issues if our council could for once be part of an honest, informed discussion?
    • I don’t think anyone has mentioned Peckham FoodCycle yet, they might enjoy some apples! https://foodcycle.org.uk/location/foodcycle-peckham-saturdays/
    • Just wanted to recommend Roger from Critter Solutions Pest Control if anyone’s dealing with mice or other unwanted guests. We had a sudden issue with mice in our home's kitchen and after calling around, these guys were by far the most responsive and professional. Roger arrived on time, was really friendly, and took the time to explain what he was doing and why. He did a full inspection and sealed up some access points we hadn’t even noticed. Since his treatment we haven’t seen or heard anything since. What I appreciated most was that it didn’t feel like a rushed job or a hard sell – just honest advice and thorough work. All backed with a guarantee.  Would definitely use them again (hopefully won’t need to!) and thought I’d share in case anyone local is looking.
    • Another recommendation for Jeremiah! He's cleaned our windows for a couple of years now and is always reliable, friendly and does a great job
