Eh? Opposite the station, near Sainsbury's and the football ground, a minute away from Goose Green roundabout and the busy end of Lordship Lane?

It was our favourite place for weekend lunches in the very brief period when it had a great chef, good managers and a well kept selection of ales.

Not everyone coming out of the station is heading for the pub and those that do will have their own

favourite watering hole where they meet their mates.

Many/most people shopping at Sainsbury's will be in their car so wont be drinking and those on foot

will probably want to get their food home and get it in the fridge/freezer.

Dulwich Hamlet FC has a good cheap bar that satisfies most football drinkers...

A few DHFC drinkers use the EDF

and for most ED residents they would have to pass 2-3 other pubs to get there..

So not the best location at all.

DHFC Has a good cheap bar which can't handle the numbers, and most people leave straight after the match to head for a pub, often to watch the 5:30 kick of on telly. This is why I think this could take advantage of that.

If I end up in the EDT it's because there's no other option. If this offers another option I shall certainly try it.

Fox.

You were very wrong about The Ivy House, which you said would fail and which has gone from strength to strength.

If The Cherry Tree has good food and a decent range of drinks then I think you will be wrong about that too.

Just saying ....

Is the Ivy House making a profit then?

I did not say That The Cherry Tree will fail. The argument was its location.

.. But the place will not thrive because it is near Sainbury's. (People in cars)

.. and as most trade is after 21.00 (especially at weekends) there will be little trade from the station.

.. and Dulwich Hamlet only play at home once a fortnight during the Football Season so that ain't going

to make it pay.

It will only be successful on its own merits.

So not Negative.. Just realistic.

At the time of the last shareholders' meeting it was more than meeting its targets.

It's probably in one of the best locations in the area

Agreed. And, if it's run correctly with its customers in mind - and with motivated and contented staff- it has massive potential.

It depends what you mean, I guess. It has only been a community-owned pub a short time, and so far there has only been one shareholders' meeting.

You can read all about it here:

I'm proud to be a shareholder. It's a great pub.

Totally agree. And much of the hullabaloo about buggies / kids / swearing / e-cigs etc would be solved if pubs of a certain size went back to separate bars. If there's one thing my father taught me it was by all means swear in the bar but not in the lounge...

Mr Negative and our Wikipedia correspondent strikes again. It is over 100 years. I used to have a photograph of it taken in 1911 and it had certainly been going for a while then. It had Walter. W Collison above the door. Mr Collison also owned The Magdala around the same time and is my mate's grandfather or great grand father.

Here's the picture.

    • I often walk past 'Kenro Press' and think it looks very sad and negleted. I wonder when it was last a viable business - tried googling it but nothing much came up Great to hear it is being brought back to life, perhaps a pity it will not be a new usefull retail premises. Lots of work needed so good luck with your renovation
    • No I don't disagree. I wasn't condoning drivers getting confused and the debate on whether refresher tests should be taken is a long one and is something probably for a Malumbu- thread!   I take it you never entered your details as someone agreeing with their sentiment but lots of Dulwich residents did and as part of that you get their email updates. So no, I have nothing to do with tje group beyond one of those two thousand dots on their website as a "member" is me!   Now, are you going to answer my questions or pretend you never saw them....p.s. we have seen this tactic before - happy to throw questions but not happy to answer some yourself...

If you disagree, I would be interested in what you consider a basic level of competence behind the wheel. Are you a member or a ‘subscriber’? Is there a difference. Does anyone know?  Who is alleging there has been pressure put on the emergency services (not you, you’re just neutrally posting ‘updates’ 😂). It is all very transparent and accountable isn’t it 🤣
