Why is that then Sue.

Over the years I've been a regular in the Plough where I worked.

A regular in the old Uplands , the Palmy. The Foresters / Bishop

And now the EDT.

I tend to stick with one pub and move on from time to time when things change.

Like partners. Never felt the need for more than one at a time.

Well 200+ people on opening night (free beer)

Been back a few times since and there were 4 or 5 people in at 9.30pm

And a few dining. 6-8

So I I have tried. Friendly barman . Just the one.

ALways preferred to have a set of pub crawls to reflect my mood :)

Nonesense.. They will have plenty of customers..

People who live nearer. People who the new facilities suits them. I.E. Sports / Food/ Garden / childrens area.

Passing trade.


It is not compulsary to visit every new Bar, Pub, Cafe, Restaurant, Shop.

Why do people insist we all need to support ALL local businesses. ? Thats not practical.


I do not have the resourses to constantly Eat and Drink out in ED or indeed anywhere else for that matter.

I do my fair share of Eating and Drinking out.

I was in Bristol the weekend before last and couldn't believe how cheap drinks were compared to London.

I seldom drink more than 2 pints. Sometimes just the one.

I gave up drinking myself into a coma many years ago.

There are many examples in several threads where people have said they don't use / wouldn't use a place.


The Pussey Liquor thread is a good example. With some prominent users expressing such a view.


I have not seen any such judgement as above passed to those people.

You just cannot drop the knock Foxy thing can you. ?

I read Sue's response as trying to be friendly (the smiley emoticon gave me this impression) and I didn't read it as an attack of you Foxy, but more as a comment that it is good to have a mix of people. Those who are loyal to their locals and those that try the new openings, move about, or like different things on different days.


Local businesses need both of these types of people to grow, thrive and hopefully survive.


It's a shame you feel like it was an attack on you (I understand why you might, I've seen plenty of unwaranted negativity towards you on the Forum) but in this case I do think you have overblown the comment to feel unfairly judged.


Sue, If I am misrepresenting your intentions then I am happy to stand corrected. Dulwich Fox, keep your head high and do what you do, drink where you want, and eat where you want. Try not to read everything as a 'knock' most of us appreciate your input.

It was indeed intended to be a light-hearted comment, however I do sometimes find the Fox's life view as posted on here and as exemplified by that particular post wears me down :(

With Pussey Liquor people are saying it's a childish and insulting name, and as such they won't be going there.


You're not saying anything like that, you are saying you like other pubs so probably won't bother going the extra distance to the cherry tree (or whatever it will be called).


They are very different things. There are loads of places I will probably never go to simply because I can't be bothered or am not interested. As such, I don't post on threads about them.


You just cannot drop the victim complex thing can you. ?

      I'm surprised no-one has helped you.  There have been at least two or three threads on the topic in the last couple of years. I'm afraid they'll all confirm that you assumed wrongly.  I remember looking into it myself and finding nothing to assist anyone who made the same assumption. While recently having a look through the Townley Road appeals decided in 2023, I came across this determination that also clearly spells it out. 31/3/23 Reasons     Mr X appeals against two Penalty Charge Notices. He argues that they have only been issued in order to make money for the council. Mr X states that the restrictions were introduced to make it safe for school students in the morning and afternoon and that as both 26th December 2022 and 2nd January 2023 were public holidays there was no purpose in enforcing the restriction. The appellant states that he was driving to collect an elderly relative. Townley Road is a route that is for buses, cycles and taxis only Monday to Friday 8-9am and 3-4.30pm. The restriction is in operation every Monday to Friday whether or not schools are on holiday or if it is a bank or public holiday. There was no indication on the sign that the prohibition was not being enforced on either Monday 26th December or Monday 2nd January. I have seen the CCTV footage in relation to each contravention. I have also  seen photographs of the signs and camera car footage that show the signs  and warning signs. I find that the signs are clear and that there is sufficient  warning of the restriction to enable a driver to take an alternative route. I find that each contravention occurred. I refuse both appeals.

      I suggest you write to the estate agent asking specific questions and request a written response. Otherwise they will tell you anything to get a sale.

      Hello, I walked past this a few minutes ago on the corner of Shawbury Road X Lordship Lane. Had a look, put it back but then saw the cut security chain as well 20 meter down the road and thought someone definitely is missing at least some handlebars. If they are still there when I come back I can take them in as I live on the next street, please DM me to arrange pickup if they belong to you.   --- UPDATE: 20:02 PM, it's still there.   I've decided not to touch it again or take it with me as it's oily and the wife will not appreciate it.
