My daughter, who has always loved reading books with illustrations / something visual, has been reading some old DFC comics from school. She is loving them, unfortunately they are no longer published.

Does anyone have recommendations for comics that your children read. I am looking for a comic like the DFC one, no adverts, no junk/plastic on the front (which my daughter loves!)and perhaps something that I can get a subscription to that comes weekly or twice a month?

Any recommendations appreciated .

I've had Phoenix recommended by friends and my son seems to like it. Plus Beano, and unfortunately, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Dr Who one is monthly and good.

Also if you want to try lots out, there's a day a year where various comic give away samplers for free. You've missed it now, but you can pick them up for ?1 online, eg:

Not sure what might be suitable.

Also a couple of comic books that have had good reviews:

I have a box of phoenix comics in v. good condition (from issue 1 onwards; 40 - 50?) - a friend picked them up for my daughter at a car boot I think but I haven't been able to interest her in reading them. If anyone wants them they are very welcome to them - just pm me.

    • You can get a card at the till, though, to get the discount. You don't have to carry it with you (or load it onto your phone), you can just get a different card each time. Not sure what happens if they notice 🤣
    • Yes..that may be the case but membership STARTING at £115 a month is still unafforable for many. Council gyms also have a large range of equipment and I had a  PT at Dulwich leisure centre when I was in Full Time employment who was incredible and even kept in contact during lockdown giving me a program I could do at home and checking in weekly at no charge or personal gain for herself. I dont doubt that Fit For may be a good gym (Its been in situ long enough so must be doing something right) However the cost of membership means it is affordable for the few not the many. If I could afford that kind of fee I would rather get a train to Canary Wharf and go to Virgin active where theres a pool and incredible classes and facilities
    • This sounds great 👍
    • We found a red TREK bike yesterday that had clearly been stolen and dumped. Would love to reunite it with its owner. Get in touch if you know whose it is.
