Orange is often said to symbolise courage and creativity

It is uplifting...

It stimulates the appetite, social interaction and even the metabolism

It refers to positivity, energy and warmth

It is a vital colour in the food chain, Vit A, Vit C and so on

Orange is a wonderful colour *Bob*, it even cheered up Rothko for a while

Can lead to controversy in Norn Iron though Charlies.

And of course would be derided by those who had experienced poor service from the portable 'phone company of the same name.

Pondering the former I found myself in a state of some melancholy. I wandered hither and yon, deep in thought and with no mind to any destination. My revery was pulled up short by the sound of amplified music.

I found myself quite by chance and likely as not having passed every other bar on Lordship Lane, outside the Vale.

I can't say that some mystical force had drawn me there. I can't say it hadn't either.

I entered the bar and for some reason and don't ask me why because I'd never even heard of it before, ordered an orange 'juice'.

As the barkeep poured the bright libation I swear I saw a wink of Florida sun spring forth.

Raising the glass to my gorgeous pouting lips, I took a deep draught.

It was OK I suppose, nothing to write home to my cousins about though.

On the other hand it made me feel better about the colour orange.

But the main thing is I'll never go anywhere else from now on but the Vale, for pretty much all my meals and any liquids I might require (unfortunately they're not open for breakfast, I feel a petition coming on!!!).

From now on my motto is 'When life seems of no avail, go to the Vale, there's vail to spare'.

????' date=' just in case you thought I wasn't being serious about orange... thought i better put the record straight, [b']I was[/b]... Colour theory is a fascinating subject and very few people are aware of the direct impact colour has on physical and mental well being...

the human eye can detect over 10 million colours, and each colour has a different impact (I could expand on some to the scientific research that has been done in this area but...)

Interestingly, the brian has no capacity for accurately recording or remebering colour, so keep looking and keep enjoying

    • thanks Jenijenjen and all - yes, i remember walking or taking the bus from the elephant (where i was working) to Camberwell to get there.  I think Tim - who's still at Franklin's -  was there in those days, and the woman who ran the cafe!  Other food places that i remember fondly are the ones in Neal's Yard (with the Hunkin sculpture that you could put a coin in ) and the basement lunch place at the Tottenham Court Road junction with Hanway Street...
    • Did you try the emergency number posted above? It mentions lift breakdowns over the festive period outside the advertised  times. Hope you got it sorted x
    • People working in shops should not be "attempting to do the bill in their head." Nor if questioned should they be  trying to "get to an agreeable number." They should be actually (not trying to) getting to the correct number. I'm afraid in many cases it is clearly more than incorrect arithmetic. One New Year's Eve in a restaurant (not in East Dulwich but quite near it) two of us were charged for thirty poppadoms. We were quite merry when the bill came, but not so merry as to not notice something amiss. Unfortunately we have had similar things happen in a well established East Dulwich restaurant we no longer use. There is also a shop in East Dulwich which is open late at night. It used not to display prices on its goods (that may have changed). On querying the bill, we several times found a mistake had been made. Once we were charged twice for the same goods. There is a limit to how many times you can accept a "mistake".  There is also a limit to how many times you can accept the "friendly" sweet talking after it.
    • Adapted not forced.  As have numerous species around the world.  Sort of thing that Attenborough features.  Domestic dogs another good example - hung around communities for food and then we become the leader of the pack.  Not sure how long it will take foxes to domesticate, but some will be well on their way.    Raccoons also on the way https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1j8j48e5z2o
